Hello all! Just picked up my truck a few weeks ago, 100% in love with it.. Bought it with what appears to be a 6inch body level and lift, 8inch Superlift SSR steering and suspension, 36X20 all terrain nubs, aftermarket exhaust tips, and the axels look upgraded too.. not sure if there's some sort of identifier on those axels to tell me the specs or ratios, thaut it pulls faster than my buddies stock 2500 of the same year.. BIG BIRD YELLOW! I've never been real big into mods, never really had the time or money to mess around with them too much, so that's why I joined the forum, to see what other people have done and how much success (or not) they've had with each.. of course I can't expect to get fuel economy like a Prius (who really wants that anyways?!) But I want to see some better ways of extending that 35 gal tank of mine without the advice of my wife who says "just drive real nicely".. Haha! 5.7 HEMI is all I've got to say about that!! Who wants to drive nicely when you have the power to set off car alarms, make infants cry, and people on the side of the street jump and say 'oooo damnnnn!!' with a nice flick of the gas pedal?! So, if there's anyone else like me that loves to be loud an obnoxious, but can still secretly do it a little frugally, let me know some ideas!! Just don't mention K&N to me.. I'd shop at Walmart over GAP anyday, if you catch my drift.. I don't care about brand name, I care about cost:actual performance ratios..
Once again, Hey all!

Hello and welcome to the forum, glad to have you join us! Sounds like a cool truck, congrats! Any pics you can share? We'd love to see it! I'm sure you'll get plenty of good mod advice here, most HEMI folks start with intake/exhaust, let it breathe better, then add a programmer to really get the most of the mods but good luck and be sure to keep us posted! Lots of great people and info here, so any help you need, just ask and I hope you enjoy the site!

Well, understanding that MPG is always affected by right foot position, let's look at some standard mods that will help with the MPG...

1. Cold air intake
2. Freer flowing exhaust
3. A programmer
4. Synthetic lubes

As far as actual cost benefits, the better made products are worth it. You don't have to spend a lot, though.

Don't go with a cheapo, eBay special for the cold air intake. You might save some money up front but if that filter comes apart (and the cheap ones do!), sucking that stuff down into your engine just negated what you saved.

Don't go with the super cheap "chips", such as a GForce or Jet...all they do is send false signals to the PCM that the engine needs more fuel. The downside to that is you get too much fuel, which will cause valve deposits & shorter spark plug life, detonation (eventually due to built up carbon), LOSS of MPG & potential damage to the catalytic converters and O2 sensors. If ya want some different tuning, go with a good programmer.

What sounds good in exhaust is a subjective measurement. We can't pick what sounds good for you. We can only offer up our experience with brands and sizes. Some basics about mufflers:

1. The cheapest way to open up the exhaust is to just swap out the muffler(s).

2. Another flow boost at the exhaust end is to replay the "Y" pipe. Most stock ones are pretty restrictive.

3. The shorter the muffler can, the louder the muffler.

4. There are straight pass through mufflers (Magnaflow, Borla, Cherry Bomb, etc...) and chambered mufflers (Flowmaster) so they sound different. You'll have to pick what sounds best to you.

5. If you have MDS on your HEMI, don't remove your resonator(s). The exhaust resonance (drone) will drive you out of the cab.

So good luck with the mods. The intake, exhaust and programmer are affectionately referred to around here as the "Big Three".
