I see a lot of people with 2 pipes into a Y then into a 1in/2out muffler. Anybody consider one of these:

A crossover, whether it be y pipe, x pipe, or h pipe all perform better than "true duals". Now if that muffler has an x pipe inside like some do it would be a good setup.

"To save costs, your typical stock exhaust uses small diameter, crush bent pipe. Crush bends are easy to make in mass production. However, crush bends can reduce the flow of a pipe by up to 50 percent. Your typical exhaust system made by the local neighborhood muffler shop is also crush bent. The best exhaust systems, like most Japanese pre-made exhaust systems, come with mandrel bends."

check this site out if you think that crushed pipe is better than free flowing

Sorry guys I am not sure if this has been brought up on this thread becuase I have been trying for 20 minutes to get the page to load. I am seeing that the Y pipe has made the back pressure drop. From my experience it seems that this may help a little on the highway since if you let off the throttle at all in this thing she will start slowing down. My main question is did it drop so much that it would negatively effect using the back pressure for going down hill and towing? I know you can always downshift but is it that dramtic for loss of back pressure?? Also thanks to the thread I have heard of people replacing the Y pipe before but didn't realize it was so badly constricted. I am really looking into doing the exhaust and am looking for any ideas on whats best for milage, hp gains and throttle response. I have a K&N and am aiming for the exhaust next and if they ever come out with it a prorammer. Thanks again guys!! Great info!

I have heard and seen that a lot on here. I will definitely go with the Magnaflow muffler. I just am very torn on getting a cat back or just the muffler. From everything that I have read and a couple posts on other threads it is sounding like a complete waste to get it. Leaning towards just the muffler now.

All a cat back for our trucks is a muffler, new straight pipe(pointless as ours flows great) and piping to the rear(again stock flows good). Just the the muffler swap and y pipe and uou already have a better system than "cat back"

X2, totally agree. Stock piping is quality S.S. pipe. Replacing it is a waste of money . I like the mufflex system, performs good and easy to install yourself

FDBDW, thanks man back me up, there is another thread with this guy saying that a "cat back" system is better than a muffler swap, which all his cat back did was replace already good flowing straight pipe, and also replacing already mandrel bent tail pipes...eh just because its $500 its better?? lol

I've also seen were people are talked into redoing their exhaust by muffler shops that rip out the good S.S. piping and replace it with crap piping. They spend money and end up with a lesser quality system. I think the problem is that most Ram owners don't realize the good quality of the stock pipes . Its basically a case of doing research and educating yourself before you do mods, this site is great for that and has helped me out alot.
