Many on here have been going with the Magnaflow 10778 y-pipe. 2.5" dual. 3" single.

After reading 17 pages of this thread I have concluded a few things.
1. After getting off to a relatively rocky start due to typical wise cracks and misunderstandings it has been a very interesting/fun read.
2. Full catback systems are not an essential (or even a necessary mod.) to our trucks.
3. Cutting into your system immediately after the cat and installing a Y-pipe and adding a 14,18,22 Magnaflow or Mufflex etc is all you need to increase flow , get better sound and generally get rid of the crappy smashed factory pipe.

I may have missed some important points or gotten things bass-ackwards over the course of a zillion posts… If I did…. can someone else please give a good summary.

A friend of mine did a dyno test back to back.
He gained *RWHP from this mod,I did this mod on my 2003 and 2010,you will notice a slight increase in power and MPG.
No loss of bottom end at all.

Anything we can do to reduce either intake OR exhaust restriction(s) WILL result in increase(s) in BOTH power and efficiency.

Why don't any of the cat backs just start a little further forward and include the Y or even better an X pipe? Seems like it would save the extra trouble.

After reading all 17 pages of the above thread a cou[ple questions.

1. Is the Y-Pipe a simple cut the old/dirty/restrictive one out insert fancy/shiny/new one with simple welds no further modification required.
2. Is it a requirement to cut out and replace the so-called crushed pipe that runs in the vicinity of the tramsmission ? If I dont cut out that pipe am I just throwing money away in replacing the Y.
