I hope I dont see black smoke.. tire smoke is white, so if we see black smoke that means we have a bigger problem on our hands

Well, my 4.7 feels actually better than my old 5.9 did. It pulls off the line better and has a way easier time passing people at highway speeds. Go figure!

My 4.7 has GREAT top end power! If I floor it off a dead stop it takes a bit to get moving and then WHAM it hits 3k RPM and its like a turbo kicked in! Problem is with the bottom end torque, which it has NONE! A 1/2 ton truck should NOT have to downshift to get up a slight hill. Mine does everytime. im hoping a tuner chip will help move the torque band lower and put a smile on my face.

a tuner helps alot with power at all rpm, max gain is around 3000 rpm I think with the superchips 91 tune....gears are best to get the low end grunt with this engine.

As a disclaimer, i only have 850 miles on it currently and am running 87 octane but im only getting high 9's or 10 mpg in town. Should i be running 92 or something or what. Im really disappointed kn the mileage ive been getting and only have a magnalow muifler jnstalled thus far. Any hints here or what. 3.55 gears, factory tires at factory pressures. I'm just frustrated.

You should be getting at least 15mpg....My same setup with quad cab gets around 16mpg with stock tune. I have 48000 miles and 3.55.

Again though, I only have less than a thousand miles on the thing thus far. I don't know if there is any kind of a break in on it or what but it still seems abnormally low. When I first got the magnaflow, I'll admit that I liked to hear that exhaust give a nice thrum and was a bit throttle heavy, but since then (I put it on RIGHT when I got the truck) I really drive it pretty mellow all in all and I'm still getting barely 12. I figured around town I could get around 14mpg or so but its just not happening. Are you getting 15-16 in town or on highway. What tire pressures do you run?

Also, should I be running 89 or 92 octane gas instead. I've just been running "pure" gas without ethanol in it at 87 octane since new and only filled up a few times now. I wouldn't imagine the higher octane would help much if at all as I'm not hearing any pinging or anything going on that could be gas related.

There's no way you should be getting anything close to 10 mpgs in ur truck you must have a very heavy foot or a issue with the truck

Agreed. I REALLY don't feel like my foot is all that heavy though. I'm really starting to wonder. I'm going to try 89 octane gas and see if that makes a difference at all when I go to refill the tank.

The higher octane won't help your mpg don't waste the money unless it's pinging. Wow, even with ethanol free gas you get bad mileage! I run 93 with 10% ethanol (superchips 91 tune) and get like 17 city, 20+ hwy. Right now it's tuned stock as I'm taking it to the dealer and all week it's been around 16 city, still have the 93 octane in it, but that shouldn't make any difference.

Try not to cruise at constant speeds for long periods as to properly break in an engine you want to vary the rpm's alot. If you're cruising on the highway, cruise for 5 minutes at a time and vary between 55mph, then 70mph, then 60....etc.....it will hopefully help. Also, you can run it a little hard (accelerate a little hard) time from time, just don't abuse it and redline it at every stop light. Going too easy on an engine does not help break in.....that being said most newer cars have the engines broke in before installed in the car, so isn't really necessary, but in your case it may help. You should be getting at least 14 city 19 hwy as rated especially with pure gas.
