^ that's not normal mpg...somethings off there...my dad's and most others of the 1st gen 4.7L get around 17, some slightly worse, some better. My second gen avg is around 17-18 but it's almost all city.

My quad will get 20+ hwy depending on speed. I have 3.55's.

I tuned my truck back to stock the other day and my EVIC mpg avg has gone down 1 mpg in about 30 miles.

LUBINATOR is on a distinguished road
Default 4.7

We have 4 4.7 and 3 5.7 all 2009 SLT QC All towing package with LS diff no mods except for K&N drop ins

We get an avg of 14 to 17 city and 18 to 22 hwy mpg on the 4.7s

We get an avg of 9 to 13 city and 15 to 20 hwy with 5.7s

Hate the MDS, it is useless except on level highway runs and we had to replace some plugs on all the hemis , none on 4.7s

All tow the trailers we drag, and all carry the bed loads of tools and parts, appx 700 to 900 lbs all the time

The mileage drops using the trailers on all trucks.

Advantage 5.7 step on gas it moves, but it burns the gas, tows trailers better, but we only use trailers about 20 to 25% of time

Advantages 4.7 better gas mileage overall

We like both versions, but my persoanl one is the 4.7 by my choice, I don't need the extra hp, and I am very happy with my mileage.

All mileages were calculated, not using the ECU

^ Those mileages seem about right to me.

I am happy with the power of my 4.7L, my 5000+ lb quad cab moves out considering it has such a small engine... Gas mileage is almost as good as my 2.2L s10 5 speed manual was...

Bought my 2009 4.7 L new and got a great deal on it. Almost $10,000 off of sticker price. But I bought it to tow my 18 ft travel trailer through the mountains of Wyoming and Montana and it is fairly gutless. I have added the K&N C.A.I. and the Super 40 Flowmaster and I have a Superchip Flashpaq coming today. So I hope to get the torque I need to climb hills and mountains. If not, I may sell this one and buy a Hemi. But with the mods I've done and having paid way under sticker, I should be able to sell it for a good price.
But I like the looks, the comfort, everything about it still. Just wish I'd gotten the Hemi. If I wasn't towing, the 4.7 L would be just fine.

That tuner will give you alot of hp and tq, and the max torque gain is around 3,000 rpm if I remember correctly. This ought to be perfect for your application.

Thanks for your encouragement. I'm working late all of this week, so it will be Saturday before I install the Superchip. When you see a black smoke cloud in the direction of Wyoming, you'll know it's hooked up and I'm smoking tires!

lol. Yeah your particular year/engine has the largest gain of any gas engine from a tuner that I've seen. 50hp and 50 ft lb in 91 perf tune....although you can't tow with that....
