Default Quick help mounting a relay...

Hey Guys -

Just wired up some KC Slimlights behind my grill on my 2010. Kit comes with a pre-terminated wiring harness with all the fuses, relays, etc.

I'm getting power off the + post on the TIPM, and in searching for a spot to mount the relay near the battery and TIPM, I simply couldn't find a good spot unless I drill into the frame where the TIPM is mounted (which hasn't worked out for me yet with the bits I have). Anyway, the wire harness is all zip tied and nothing is moving around - would there be anything wrong with using industrial velcro to velcro the ralay to the frame behind the TIPM? I am utilizing the ground screw right behind the TIPM as well so that's also holding things down.

I dunno - I'm not 100% happy with this either but I simply can't find anything easy to drill into to mount this relay on that side of the vehicle...

Thanks in advance for the help/suggestions -

Ended up mounting it next to the ground screw on the frame there - finally able to drill it out after going through a couple drill bits. Screwed it down and used the Velcro on the back of the relay for good measure. Really happy with the kc kit overall - lights are the perfect size for behind the grille.

Sorry about the delay - here are a couple of pics! Basically, I took the KC Slimlights and mounted them upside down on the crossmember that runs in front of the radiator (figured this out with the help of another board member). There are two existing holes in the top of the crossmember and they are positioned in exactly the spots where the lights look best - just drilled through the bottom of the crossmember and had my mounting spots. Then just ran the harness along the existing light harness, zip tied it up, routed it behind the battery and through the fender, and then out and down into the firewall (poked a small hole in one of the existing grommets (down low on the firelewall, driver's side) and fed the wires through. I ended up mounting the small KC switch on the lower part of the dash - like, right above where my right leg would be when driving the vehicle. Just seemed like a good spot for me - kept it sort of out of the way, but easy to get to if I need to....

Honestly, the whole installation took me three hours start to finish, and that's only because I'm a bit of a perfectionist with wire ties and what not.

I get HUGE light from these slimlights too - exactly what I needed on some of the dark backroads I drive. Plus, the pre-terminated wire harness made things really easy, especially for a wiring novice like myself. I suppose I could have tied them into the high beams, but I wanted to be able to switch them on/off whenever I wanted, and I didn't want any warranty issues as a result of having tied them into the existing wiring.

p.s. yeah, I know the truck is filthy - just got back from a long road trip and didn't get a chance to wash it yet...

Looks good man! I've been considering getting some. Helps a lot when riding back in trails.

Again, another great idea from this forum!
I am a volunteer firefighter. Here in Ontario we are allowed to have forward facing flashing green lights. I have a windshield mounted LED strobe now.
I got power for it from the rear view mirror. ( got that idea from a post here ).
This idea would work for a couple of small strobes for additional lighting.I will do this for sure.
I used to have headlight flashers in my previous truck. They are actually illegal here on a private vehicle, but I never had a problem from any police.
They sure were effective for clearing traffic though.
