Default Headliner and Pillars

Looking to change my headliner out and the pillars to change to black. Visors also. Anyone done this? Is it hard?

I think Kurtis (CdnoilRAM) did on his truck. Maybe he'll chime in soon, I'll try to find the thread in the meantime.

Yup, I did mine. It's not that hard, but I learned a few things; The Permatex glue is garbage, use the 3M upholstery 90, and do small sections of glue at a time. One year later I have sags in my headliner. When pulling the visors apart, be very careful, I rushed and ended up cracking one... just got a new one and will be redoing them to accomodate a new mod I will be putting in.

How were you planning on coloring the pillars? I used the Duplicolor interior vinyl dye and have been quite happy with the results. Make sure you degrease and clean all the parts well before spraying. You can also use the Krylon fusion paint as it bonds to vinyl nicely, but I went with the dye instead.

To remove the pillars, you need to remove all the shoulder belts and that requires a T-50 torx bit, but everything else snaps off except the A-pillar which needs a 10mm socket.

Here are the writeups that I did, hope they help:

I'll do this mod once I leave and get settled in MS. Probably going to paint the vinyl parts. My headliner will be a little different since I have a sunroof. Got to research that some more. Going to make everything black. Looking for some visors as mine are pretty darn worn.

You headliner will still pullout the same, you just need to remove the retaining clips for the lower bezel, and the material swap is straightforward. I also would put right over the fabric that's in place, don't pull the old stuff off since it had a small amount of padding on it.

Remember to pie-cut the corners and wrap the fabric all the way around to the backside of the headliner so you don't see the cut line like you do on the stock headliner.

When selecting fabric for the headliner, you need to make sure it's light. You don't want something heavy like velvet of shag or the weight will just pull it off of the headliner.

Thanks for that advice. Yeah I was going to just put it right over the other. Still looking for replacement visors.

I just called around a few local yards and asked if they had a 3rd gen (02-08) and once I found one onsite, asked if the visors and door panels were intact (needed new ones for a project). Time spent on yellowpages website and the phone was 10 minutes tops, I love technology some times.

What's worn on the visor? If it's just the fabric, you're gonna pull it off anyways.

Oh they keep popping out so I want to find some newer ones. They are not on the top of the list yet.

I did this with suede to my headliner and visors and it went really easy, as I had never worked with upholstery before. just used the 3m 90 grade spray adhesive and now I have a suede headliner....if I can do this anyone can
