No glare what so ever from the map lights, they are really nice.
The rear dome on the other hand kicks out a hell of a lot of light.

Good to know. They have these that you can buy individually at the big truck stop 3 miles from my house. I think they are like $10 a piece, so I may have to do this.

This kit only replaces the two map lights and the rear dome light.

I am new to modding so I have to ask questions you folks don't even have to think about. I don't want start this modding by breaking stuff!

I have just ordered the dual map and dome LEDS for my new Laramie.

My question: How do you get at the sockets for the lamps? Do you just pry out the clear plastic covers over the bulbs or do you remove the whole frame assembly that has the sunroof switches etc.? and then get at the sockets from the backsides?

Thanks MUCH for the advice!

You need a small flat blade screw driver and you just pop the lenses off. They are kind of hinged and it doesn't take much force to pop the cover loose.
Now getting those bulbs out can be a bit of a pain!

Well, I received the Putco interior LED lamp set today and was anxious to get the mod into my truck.

I have to agree Stump3r, the original lamps do not want to come out and I followed your duct tape suggestion - worked great by the way.

But I was disappointed in the Putco LEDS.

In my truck, the dash light dimmer switch has a position called 'party' mode. With the dash switch in this position, turned to the maximum left, you can open the truck doors but the interior lights do not come on automatically - BUT - you can STILL toggle any individual lamp on and off by pressing the lamp manually. This works for the original filament lamps but NOT for the PUTCO LED replacements.

Anyone else notice this?

You might be able to fix this by paralleling a resistor across the terminals of the LED replacements but I haven't tried this and will have to do some experimenting to find out what value of resistor would work.

The dome lamp would be easy but the map LEDs would be more difficult and maybe not possible, in both cases because of the way they are built.

Yeah same thing with mine. It gets even more strange though....this is only while the truck isn't running, start your truck and all lights work as they should. Even the rear dome will not work when in this mode. Not sure what the deal is.
