That really is an awesome truck, congrats on such a cool find! I agree with others here who say restore it to original.

Thanks for all of the good information! I sent that form in to chrysler and hopefully i'll hear back from them within the next week. Part of me hopes its legit and part of me hopes its not...i dont see why it wouldnt be though. I bought this truck bc i needed to restore my car...had no idea i'd be taking on yet ANOTHER restoration project! but if it is indeed legit...i cannot in good conscience paint over it...i am old school at heart and even though it may drain my wallet...this is what i live for lol My only question is...how in the world would i go about preserving the signatures on this thing????!!

If it's only the cab and hood, a good paint shop can repaint those parts and you will never see it. It is my understanding that the truck is clear-coated 'OVER' the signatures, so a good paint shop can scuff the clear-coat, and redo it, thereby preserving the original underneath.....and this is likely less costly that a complete re-paint.

As you have discovered, this is a very rare truck, and is likely worth every effort to preserve it.....especially the signatures. I hope you find out from the build sheet that you in-fact have one of the originals. Who knows, you may end up with a Barret-Jackson worthy item, and that can be a real financial asset.

I can pretty much gauruntee you have a Legit Richard Petty edition. Here is my logic behind my thoughts: Its simple math. With fewer than 1% of trucks made that year being RP editions, they are little known. If people dont know they exist, they cant copy them. They are coveted by their owners. The people who have them, bought them new, and most wont let them go. I have a hunch if you fix it up, keeping it original Mopar, preserving the signatures...in 20 years, you could very well be looking at a $100,000 asset.

Even if it needs a complete repaint, a good shop can still preserve the signatures. Best idea is to find a shop who has experience in complete, body-off restorations, and let them handle the paint part. Then park it, keep the miles down, and dont abuse her. She will pay you back 10 fold.

Brodieman, That paint doesnt look too bad. Its just a little faded/clearcoat peel. you put $2500 in paint in it, you could be looking at a real financial asset.

There are only two spots missing paint...both on the cab....the clear coat on the hood and front fenders has peeled a bit....the front lip was also damaged and i have the pieces :/ the body itself if in great shape. I'll try no to put too many miles on it...but it's going to be hard!!!(seeing as that is the only thing i have to drive at the moment) lol i have a friend that does paint...real good at it too...we're gunna try to figure out where to start on this thing...maybe section at a time???? start with high priority first...to prevent and decay
