Default Gear and performance mod help

I've been kicking around the idea of swapping my 3.55s out for the 4.10 found in the R/T but I have a couple questions. I have a 4x4. Can I use the rear end out the R/T? I'd like to stay mopar if I can. Second, what kind of performance gains will I get?

Also, and this is the fun part for you guys, help me mod out my engine. I'm thinking mainly bolt-on. I might go with a cam, but nothing more than that. Oh, and no NOS. Okay Ramheads, help me spend my money!!!

The rear axle should be the same, but you will still have to change the gearset up front to match or no 4x4!! The 4.10 gears with help with the acceleration, but will raise RPM's at highway cruise, and MPG will go down slightly. If you really want this, Gabrieldy and a couple others have 4.10 gears. Ask around!

4.10's are a good upgrade..it will make your truck much more fun to drive... just make sure you do both at the same time like timmy says...

and for starters, get a catback exhaust setup, change the Y pipe, cai and programmer... then consider cam..

I have a volant CAI and a 18" inch magnaflow already. I'm waiting on the predator and seeking advice on exhaust set-ups in the exhaust section. I was also thinking bigger tb and a 180 thermo. Any other ideas?

Well the gears are taken care of. So on to the performance parts.

I would recommend getting a set of headers to complete the exhaust system. Then with your tunner you should go to a shop with a dyno and get it tuned. That will actually unlock another 20 rwhp over the canned tunes. A 180 tstat will help out. A bigger TB would be good if your going to do some good performance mods.

Maybe look into an electric fan, it is cheap and it gives decent HP gains. You can also get into ported heads which will open her up. That would go good with the cam. Look at Inertia Motorsports web site, they have great performance mods and that will probably be the last spot you go. They sell some serious cams and heads, that will really make some power. Really after all that you will have to look into a charger or turbos to get some more power

3.55s to 4.10s is the jump I made and love it. MPGs only went down about 1-1.5. I don't think Dodge makes a 4.10 gear set for your front axle but I could be wrong. I guess you could buy a factory rear set and an aftermarket front set. The Dodge gears are about 2-3 times the cost of most others. I'm not saying go cheap because you def get what you pay for with gears. Shop around. Google is your friend.

If you plan on going with a lift and bigger tires then I would make the jump to 4.56s. With the bigger tires and 4.56s you'll end up in the rpm neighborhood of 4.10s with factory tires.

Go to some of the gear websites like Randy's Ring and Pinion. They have a RPM calculator. You pick the tire size, speed, and rear gear set. The only other piece of info you need is the 0.67 which is our 5th gear ratio.

Very noticeable difference when going from 3.55's 4.10's. That said i wish i went straight to 56's at the time.
