Default Catch Can - Worth it?

I can tell you that for a while I have been hearing about catch cans and thought it probably wouldn't make much of a difference on anything. After thinking about it for a while I decided to add a home made catch can to my Ram as a test to see if it would change or help anything. I just bought some hose and used my old air tool filter and rigged it up in between the PCV and the intake as a test. I figured if I liked the results I would go back and do it right. Did it yesterday and took it out today for the first time. Wow what a difference it made to my little 318. After a few hundred miles of driving I can already see a small pool of oil at the bottom of the cup and the motor runs soooo much smoother. When stopped at a light I could barely tell it was running. In case you are wondering my motor is 100% stock. No mods whatsoever aside from this. I was even able to brake the rear wheels loose on dry pavement, from a dead stop and in Drive. I have never been able to do that before. I think I will be adding this to my other vehicles also. The computer seems to have adjusted for the better. So aside from telling my tale I wanted to see if anyone else has noticed any difference before and after the catch can?

I can't speak from a performance standpoint but I can say that the throttle bodies stay a lot cleaner.

I've noticed that my TB is a lot cleaner with the catch can on than when it wasn't installed.

Whats that purpose? I run one in both of my Dodge's and don't have an issue.

Yea, I've read the same thing on several threads. That the oil lubricates the seals or seats or something like that. I would think the oil from underneath would do a good enough job at that, and I don't think oil is really supposed to be in the combustion chamber (Randy has more knowledge on that than I would). I think there is a lot of speculation about why it's all done but two things I am pretty certain of: 1-You need crankcase ventilation for the longevity of your engine. A PCV valve is a lot cleaner (no oil spilling all over your engine) and more efficient than an open filter since the air is more regulated and constant. 2-The PCV valve was created to meet government clean air standards and that has little to do with the well being of our engines. I have seen pictures on Mustang forums where they open up their engines more for modifications than we do to our Rams and the oily residue is quite obvious. I was waiting to see if I would get a CEL or something but nope, it ran really smooth. If the oil was so good I don't think it would be running better.

It is a good thing to have since it keeps the motor a little cleaner. You are not sending the crap back into your motor.

During the Hemi Engineer chat the Engineer's said the catch-can is a good idea and Mopar will likely be coming out with one.
