Have a cover, tri fold, gas mileage I am not sure as its been on it since new but I did not think gas mileage would improve as truck manufacturers eliminate the drag either by cab design to avoid airflow onto the tailgate or create a tunnel effect that eliminates drag over 25 miles per hour.

I was just watching Myth Busters and with the tailgate up got better gas mileage than with it down. I don't know how this would be effected with a cover though. They didn't mention that.

This is a link to mythbusters talking about tailgate up, down, off, mesh, and tanneau cover. The tonneau cover and tailgate up is the same gas mileage. Worst is tailgate down. Best is with mesh.

Just checked out the BakFlip, pretty cool. Maybe I can afford that in the next life. I'll stick with my old RuggedCover for now. I like the price.

It's amazing the mesh tailgate was 5 percent more efficient

Apologies in advance for the thread Hijak/Necro..but this seems like the right thread to ask this question with all the people commenting on their Tonneaus. I am looking at getting either a folding or rolling Tonneau..I haven't completely decided yet. My question is really about reliability in extreme temperatures. I am moving to Wyoming in April and I don't want to get a tonneau that has the seals and plastic break on me the first time the weather get REALLY cold. So any advice you guys can provide in that regard is most welcome.

My second question is about the folding tonneaus. Do the individual sections lock into place at all as you open them? They appear to just rest on the next folding section, which on a smooth surface road wouldn't be a problem. I am just concerned that driving on dirt roads will cause them to either rattle (driving me nuts) or flop all over the place (potentially causing damage). Again, any insights on this is greatly appreciated.

Final thought...how good are these things at TRULY keeping your stuff dust/water free back there?

Edit: I just remembered something else...I have the Chrome "Pipe" style bed rails. Is there a tonneau (of the two types I am talking about) that will work WITH those bed rails?

My Access 'Lorado' roll up works with my OEM chrome bed rails. Look for covers that mount to the side edges of the bed 'cap' and not the ones that mount on top of the caps to avoid having fit issues with tube style rails.

Thank you for the information. I took a look at the Lorado and while it doesn't interfere with the bed rails, I think I forgot to mention that I wanted a hard tonneau. As examples , I have been looking at the BAKflip and the RollBAK. Anyone have one of those they can provide some insight on?
