Default Put some 35s on my 2wd...

One of the great things about forums like this is that guys post about their setups, good or bad. Overall I'm happy with mine, and I thought I'd share.

I've got an 04 Hemi quad cab 2wd. I wanted to get 35s on there, so I purchased the Rough Country 3" kit, which consists of lift springs and blocks. I had the springs put on, and found that they did not in fact give me 3" of lift. Probably closer to 2". I found out later that the springs don't give you a full 3 inches if you've got a Hemi because of the engine weight. RC really should disclose that when describing their kit. Moreover, the rear blocks cracked during the install under only 40 ft/lbs of torque (the instructions say tighten to 85). The shop told me "The quality of the blocks that come with Rough Country are about the same as what you'd find at AutoZone." I notified the seller, and they rushed me a new set. The body shop filed them a bit, and they installed okay. I'm not terribly impressed with RC.

So, I still have a bit of a rake. But, I was determined to put 35s on my truck. I bought a wheel-tire set on ebay, it consisted of 35x12.5x18 Nitto Mud Grapplers with XD 778 "Monster" rims (under "backspacing," the seller put "4.53 & 5.71" -- I'm not sure what that means). PM me if you want to know the name of the seller. I considered just putting Nittos on my stock 20s, but I like a little meat to my tires so I went with the smaller wheels.

The set came in five days. I put the wheels on, and I'm very happy with the look. Unfortunately, there was serious rubbing and I had to do some significant trimming. I pretty much cut off the entire linings of the front wheel wells and had to put some good slices in my valence as well. I also had to do some hammering of the fender in the back of the wheel well (see pic below). I was careful, and you can't see any evidence of the hammering without looking down under the truck. There is still a tiny bit of rubbing when going full lock, but it's no big deal.

I didn't get a taller lift because I like the "stuffed" look. The tires stick out about 2". If you're a hard-core offroader, you probably should go with more lift. My offroading is limited to beaches and trails at the deer lease, so it'll work fine for me. Dodges are definitely more amenable to big tires than Chevys are. I had 6 total inches of lift on my 99 Chevy 2wd, and I had to do a lot of trimming to fit 315/75/16s.

BTW, I'm selling my stock 20s with Goodyear Wranglers if anyone is interested.

Looks good! Sounds like quite a bit of work but in the end it was worth it, IMHO.

Yea I have heard the Rough Country isn't the greatest company out there. It kinda shows in their prices since they are significantly less then their competitors.

I think the truck looks good man. I am not a fan of the stuffed looked, but hey if you are the best to ya!! I had a 2" lift on my 4x4 and had 35" tires and I too had to do some trimming. I did not have to do as much as it sounded like you had to but I guess it's cause of the 4x4. No one can really see it since it's under the truck so trimming isn't so bad

If that piece is cast iron it should be really light.Don't drop it because it will break if it is cast.
