Default Vibration when towing

I have a 2010 Ram 1500 Sport with the Hemi. It tows great but notice that I get a vibration when towing. The vibration occurs over 45 mph. I have the tow package. It has occurred on 2 different trailers - 1 single axle no brakes and 1 double axle with brakes. I took it to the shop to have it looked at and am being told this is "normal". Has anybody experienced this?

There's nothing normal about a vibration when towing, especially when you experience it with two different trailer setups. Do both trailers tow smoothly with other trucks? If so, I would call Chrysler customer service and explain your problem and tell them that the dealer is trying to tell you this is a normal condition.

Towing and vibration are not a good combination.

Someone is trying to sell you a bill of goods, I have been towing trailers for years and vibrations are not normal at anytime. Does not matter which truck be it 1/2 ton or 1 ton you should not get a vibration. Somethings to check on possiblility you have a tire with a blemish of some kind that is only noticiable when towing over 45. Another possibility is a problem with the drive shaft or rearend. If I were you I would be calling Chyrsler customer service and laying out for them. Just doing a edit on this another thought about your vibration, are both trailers dead level when hooked up to your truck. If not change your hitch hieght so they are, towing them at an angle either on the downhill front to back or back to front will cause a vibration. Level towing is the only way to tow properly.

PS to previous hook up the trailer or trailers and take the Service Manager for a ride.

We've been reading a lot about a known vibration with these trucks but most were not just due to towing. My truck does not vibrate at all when not towing. An interesting point that I was told about is whether the truck is hot or not when the vibration started. When I took it to the dealer this week, it really was not vibrating as much as I had experienced but I also had not been on the road for several hours either. I did take the truck and trailer to the dealer and the tech did take them out. I have been trying to troubleshoot by documenting each condition when it has occurred. I have a 26' Forest River toy hauler that I have towed to West Virginia and it did not vibrate at all. The difference between that and the 2 trailers that I have towed is that I used a weight distribution hitch with that and dids not with my 2 open trailers. Both trailers were level when towing but my next test will be the weight distribution hitch. And I will certainly take the advise of a few of you to contact Chrysler.

Thanks

I too had a vibration with my 2010 1500. Took it to the dealer and was told they are aware of the issue but no solution. Took it back after bad experiences - mechanic rotated the drive shaft. I haven't been able to tow since due to bad weather. Not sure if this is a fix or a bandaid but if the dealer is stating the "normal" they are full of crap. I've been told Chrysler is aware of a vibration issue but don't have a solution on the new style truck but their engineers are working on it.

The weight distributing hitch is an interesting difference. But I'm wondering if you tried towing the trailers you get a vibration using a different truck, as Ramtech suggested.

I'm interested to see what the results of both are.

Weight distirbution hitches, when not set-up properly, can cause issues, like vibrations. My guess is this is the problem. I would have the dealer you bought/installed the weight system look at it. Is your system the torsion bar type that run from the rear to the front of your truck?
