Default Painted bumper chipping and rusting.

I've had my truck 9 months. It has a painted front bumper and it is covered with chips and the chipped out areas are rusting. Some of the areas are as big as 1/4" down to 1/8". Looks bad. Do you all think this could be a warranty fix? I've only got 5000 miles on it and have an extended warranty to boot. I've also had it rust proofed and undercoated.

I would definitely think this should be covered under warranty with only 5k miles...

Here are the pics. The whole front of the bumper is like this with exeption to the the sides. I do recall passing a salt truck once this winter that was laying down some heavy salt, maybe it got chipped then.

Just went to the body shop and they submitted the claim. He said not to get my hopes up because it was caused by rock chips and they have never once covered that. He took pictures and sent them off to his main Chrysler rep. He said that it needed sanded down to bare metal to be fixed. I only passed a salt truck once but I did get peppered pretty bad. I should know in a day or two.

Good luck...mine is starting to get like that too. I'm looking to change mine out to chrome, granted it will rust too but was removes that and it won't be a chip. Good ol' Chrysler and their cheap A$$ bumpers/paint

When you get it fixed you can get some plastic liner that fits over the panels to protect against future chips.

What kind of plastic liner? Where can I get it? I noticed some type of clear plastic film on the edges of rear bumber. It covers where rocks might get kicked up, but there is nothing on the front.

There are a bunch of different kinds but all ppretty much do the same thing. just make sure to have it done IMMEDIATELY after its painted, if there are chips in it the film will bubble and look like crap. Here is a link http://www.clearmask.com/

3m makes a product that goes on clear, and if you hide the seams and edges you wouldnt even know htat it was on your truck, just cant remember the exact name of it, but a search of 3m you should be able to find it.

Clear mask is some good stuff . Want to do my body panels behind my wheels . Those BFG's have a tendency to throw stones .
