Default DODGE RAM vs ford f-series

Ok, ive been pumed up to do this long enough, its time to get down to the real deal We all know the argument between which is better, the DODGE RAM or the ford f-series??? Well Ive done my own research starting with the 2008 models, upto the 2009 models of both DODGE and ford trucks. And I do not mean to sound biased because I drive a DODGE RAM, but DODGE comes out on top in all of the performance categories, with the exeception of fords optional package of the harley davidson SC f150. This is why you do your own research and do not take those ford BS commercials seriously, because they are talking out their (|)... The facts are on both the companies websites For now, I will just compare the 1500 RAM to the f150 performance. Im sure the rest of the specs will come out soon in this thread...

Knew you'd post it! Lol. Seeing as there is an Ford in the fam along with my truck, I can tell you, the 5.4 for the previous generation is a good engine, but the lifespan SUCKS. We hardly put any strain on it, it has 63,000 miles. We perform our own tune ups, oil changes, etc. The Computer failed at about 50,000. The leveling suspension went bad within the first year. And starting at about 61,500 the starter began to go bad. It hates the cold very much as well.

My truck with 117,500 on the clock runs so much smoother, starts much quicker, and has more luxuries for being 4 years older.

the msrp on my truck was a tad under 27k and the SS/T package was rated ABOVE the laramie package. The msrp on the ford was 42k, and it is only an XLT. Your paying so much, for so much less...

Both have power seats, leather, all the luxuries you'd need, even CD players. But for 15k less you could have luxury, .5 liters bigger displacement, and an all around good looking vehicle.

Horsepower figures mean far less than what people think until they actually own the vehicle and use it for their intended purposes. Honestly, I love the 2004-2008 F-150. I've always been a fan of Chevy/GMC and Ford trucks. I never liked Dodge trucks in my life, until now. I still think the F-150 makes a better truck, in regards to work. But the Dodge makes a better truck for everyday living. Sure the 2009 Rams have 390HP compared to the F-150s wimpy 320HP. But the F-150 has a far stronger frame and equipped with a 6-speed tranny. So horsepower isn't everything. For me personally, I'd take the Ford for work, and the Dodge for play. And at the moment I'd skip the Chevy/GMC because they've been turning out ugly trucks since 1999.

I was thinking the same thing, Tom, time to get out the paddle and see what comes swimming along, lol. Those are some interesting figures, while the '08's, by comparison are not all that dissimilar, you can really see the differences in '09, but interesting to note there is no V-6 option for the '09 F-150, so comparing the 3.7L V6 to the 4.6L, even 2 valve V8, is almost not fair (makes me cry anyway, lol). At any rate, the 5/4/3 (5.4L 3 valve) is a good engine, just a royal pita to work on when it isn't running, and I have actually known several techs who OWNED those trucks and couldn't stand to work on them!

Good job CHILLZ HEMI, I was wondering if you were actually going to do it (shoulda known that answer, lol) this is definitely bound to get interesting.....

Yeah, and reviews say that the f150 has been a truck to mislead people into the power specs when actually driving it...That it just doesnt have that push to it like you would expect from those type of numbers(they only copared it to the tundras though)...And how much of a difference has ford shown how they make there frame so much stronger I would like to see that instead of hearing it all the time, theres really not proof except by word of mouth(that im aware of anyway)...As far as I know, all frames are made of steel...And you are correct in saying HP is not everything, i never said it was, but TQ is everthing, after all thats how you get the measurement of HP correct??? And ford just now began to put the 6 speed tranny in there trucks in the 09s, dodge has been doing that for quite awile...The older fords only used a four speed tranny, which created less HP, TQ, and MPG...And you said you would want a ford for work, why??? With the more TQ a DODGE has, it has more power to pull when hauling in payload, or towing...

Fords frame is fully boxed []. Yes all frames are made of steel (though I have my suspicions with Toyota frames), but Fords F series frames use more steel to completely box the whole frame. I will take a pic of the frame on my F150 later for you to see. I have a 2005 F150 in addition to my 2002 Ram 1500. I have used both to tow and fart around town. The Dodge has a 4.7 liter and the Ford a 4.6 liter 2 valve. The Dodge is quicker and more fun to fart around town in but in towing 4,500 pounds or so the Ford feels more solid. Not in terms of speed or power, I dont look at that when loaded, but it feels like it handles the load better. Thats just my opinion and its worth what you paid for it.

Ive owned 03, 05, 06 now 09 diesel.

My brother had a 05 F150. I had my 05 1500 Thunderroad.

Hes die hard Ford. I say they suck hairy swollen purple headed Moose <put whatever you want here>.

We grabbed a blanket and ran up to a local parking lot and inspected the trucks side by side.

I then told him to take a ride in the F150 along a specific path, come back and run the exact same path with my 1500.

Alll I have to say is

Ok, since the fords use more steel, wouldnt that mean added weight??? So thats why they dont feel as powerful as stated in the HP/TQ specs
And the 2002 dodge you have has, what 240hp, 300lb/ft tq at 6349lbs with 17mpg hwy??? And the ford has, what 231hp, 293lb/ft tq at 6649lbs with 19mpg hwy???
So the dodge has 9 more hp, and 7 more lb/ft tq, and is pulling 300lbs less(without a load), yet getting 2mpg less even though the ford is heavier...So fairly close for those years that you have But these things change for the new models, and pretty significantly...

In terms of 2008 and 2009 Ram vs F-series, Ram hands down.

2010 Heavy Duty Ram vs Super Duty Ford, I would probably leans towards the Super Duty.

Now we go back some years and I like them both. The 50s and 60s were very good years in terms of styling. Even the 80s and 90s. But in my book, Dodge has always had the edge with styling and their engines.
