I live in the Pacific Northwest and drive a 2wd, but I actually switch to using a dedicated snow/ice tire and adapt my driving style for winter months. I've driven by many 4x4s that've ended up in the ditch because they didn't have dedicated winter tires on.

I owned a 4x4 before and never had to use it, but I rarely go off the asphalt roads except for dirt parking lots when I go Mountain biking so a 4x2 was a better choice for me and saved me around 3K on my purchase, all I need is LSD for what I do. (It rains like once a year here in my part of AZ. LOL)

4x4 for the rare occasion I need to either tow a truck/tractor out (or even myself), and for fun...

I bought a 2wd cause I never have the need for a 4wd. The last 4wd I owned, I maybe used it once or twice over 3yrs. I have survived many nasty snowy/icy winters driving 2wds commuting over 60 miles to work here in central Kansas. The right tires are the key!

4X4 cause why not?!!! Nah but seriously I like having it in case the need arises with the north east winters... Plus I figure it never hurts to have it in case the need arises anywhere else or any other time of the year!!
