Default HELP! load resistor on led 3rd brake light

Just installed my recon 3rd brake light. Aside from me having to figure out how to tighten up the light since it doesn't look well sealed ...I'll handle that later

I'm having the notorious cargo lights staying on and dim when not in use. I know this is a commom problem for recon 3rd brake lights. They will stay dim when the truck is on and will eventually go away when the battery drains when its off.

I've purchased a 8ohm 20 watt resistor and a 6ohm 25 watt resistor set. How do I go about installing this. As I said the cargo light is only affected at this point. Thanks!!!

If the resistors have wires coming off of them, you should just be able to splice them into the power and ground wires. If they are solid metal ends, you will probably need to soder them in.

Thanks! All seems well much later then I wanted it to be though. Ended up using the 6omh 25watt and tapped the white wire which is the cargo light on the light side and its white tan stripe on truck side. Tapped the ground black wire for the other side. Problem solved. Wrapped it in electrical tape and 3m lok taped it above the light inside the lip of the cavity. I assume this entire problem stems from the current load resistor being for the brake light only?

As for mounting still concerned about the potential water problem. I know this as well has been a notorious problem. But I got #10 1 1/2" screws (light is OEM mounted with #10 1 3/4") and ran some black silicone around the edge. After 24 hours assuming it doesn't rain and I find out the hard way I'll give it a water test and report back

happened on mine also. Just figure out which wire powers the cargo light and put a resistor between it and the ground. Fixed mine permanently!

Thanks everyone. Week 2 doesn't look like I'm leaking nor have I had any further problems.

I put LEDs in my stock 3rd brake light. The cargo lights do stay longer and dim then normal, but it's never caused me any problems. They eventually go off.
