Default LMI short Ram - Intake temp vs Ambient

I'm just curious as to what those with the LMI intake are getting temp wise.

I like this intake, but would like to know what those who have it are getting for temps. Obviously winter isn't an issue with the temps (but snow is, right Var? lol) so to anyone in warmer climates, what intake temps are you getting? and in what ambient temp?

I had the LMI Hammer with the 6.1L manifold swap, but the short ram intake will be the same. When you're idling or driving very slow <30km/hr you're pulling hotter underhood temps, I was seeing 20-25C over ambient at times in these situations. When I started getting to road speed you'd see the intake temps dropping to a few degrees above ambient and as you got to highway speeds and faster you were at ambient as the engine bay is getting cold air around the grille, under the lower air dam, and if you've removed the lower air dam cover, through there too.

I'm asking this because possibly this summer I'd like to get either the full kit or the mid tube. But for the price, The full kit is a better deal. Having said that, I got a K&N drop in and the stock airbox is pretty efficient and pulls in cooler air then the full LMI kit would... Sound isn't worth the $300 to me, so its going to come down to some ballpark figures. If the LMI kit pulls air thats alot warmer then the stock system, then I may just get the midtube... We will see.

It looks to me that the full kit would pull some engine bay heat in. The stock box is pretty efficient in pulling in outside air. Insulating the box & tube to TB would help even more.

this is my dilemma. I don't want to get too much warm air into the intake. Contrary to popular belief, it gets stupid hot up here in Toronto. Last year temps reached around 40 degrees C/104 F

This is why I have no problem with the stock setup with a better filter and tube.

104? That's a normal summer morning down here in Texas lol I'm a little skeptical having an open filter with heat like this including engine heat. I can use the original air box with the carbon fiber tube though, right?

Didn't you guys get snow this winter? lol

Yes you can just get the LMI midtube (carbon fibre) that just replaces the existing plastic "accordion" tube.

This is probably the route I will go.

Mac I checked it out for you this afternoon. Of course it's not the summer climes you're waiting to hear about. But it actually got up to 20 degrees today. The intake temp was 4 @ 60 km/h.

I'm loving it! So far when I hammer down at a stop without thinking that I've put it back in 2WD I keep spinning my 37's at launch. That cracks me up. It just shudders and starts hopping as I smoke outta there
