Default Dodge newbie Off road advice

New Dodge owner with 2013 Laramie with air suspension and 8 speed. Love the truck. Put in S&B cold air after reading about it here, very happy with results. Can anyone offer oppinion on a locking rear, air or electric. Mine has locking rear but it is a limited slip. Take the truck upstate NY and need a true locking diff. Any help appreciated. Will post pictures as soon as possible. Also swapped stock rubber with 305 55 20 Dick Cepeck fun countries. They are all terrain but work well in the mud with just a little road noise.

If you go alone into really tough areas, maybe a winch and a chain saw. I've used a saw to cut blocking, trees across the road, etc. Rope or some tow straps. I have a rope come along that has saved my but a few times. The better your traction, the worse that you will be stuck eventually. I've only had to use my front mounted winch a couple times, but it saved my ass. Of course if you go with other guys, you may spend a lot of time hauling them out.

Great advise. We do that when exploring new areas. The place we have trouble is on the washout going to the property. One guy has a real locking rear and has a lot easier time. Just wondering if its worth the effort and cost to upgrade. When there is snow and mud in the spring we use chains. Thanks for the help.

The current rear ends are called ZF 245 MM REAR AXLE (differential)

applications
Chrysler 9.25" Rear "ZF" '10 & Up
2011 & Up Ram 9.25
2010 & Newer Grand Cherokee & Dodge Durango

rear axles before the ZF was called
AAM Corporate 9.25 rear differential for the Dodge Ram 1500

Gear manufacturing companies, ( like Yukon Gear, Eaton, Auburn Gear, etc. ) have not exactly leaped to make parts for the ZF differentials

You either have a limited slip or an open diff there is no locking limited slip. Maybe try putting a more aggressive tire on.

The diff is limited slip, the button that says 4 lock on the dash is referring to the transfer case.

I've looked for some time and I can't find lockers for 4 Gen Rams. I don't think they exist. I hope someone proves me wrong.
