I did the same thing but slid into a curb and both tires hit.

I was only going about 4 or 5 MPH though. Got out have a look.. no damage. Took it down the highway and no funny sounds or wobbles.. got lucky.

I hate black ice.

Could be worse. Interesting to see what can happen with the new "trailing-arm/coil" vs the old "leaf" set-up.

Thats what I was thinking. I would say it had to have been more that just a little tap to cause that much damage. Glad to hear it didn't cost you a fortune to fix.

I know, right?......it sounds like i really hit the curb to do this kind of damage. My friend (who owns a local body shop) says that imagine your 7K lb truck comes to a complete stop on a single point. Its a lot of weight for a single point to absorb. I recieved the Panhard bar in the mail on Wednesday. $95 from SPOHN.....it is an "upgraded" panhard bar, better bushings but not sure how my truck will benefit. (Just another mod to ad to my mod list i guess?) Picked up the rear left axle for $321 this afternoon from my friend at the bodyshop. Next week will be the install.

What it did was bent the flange on the axle. (The piece that holds the bolts your tires go onto) It was off a quarter inch. Our trucks have a rear panhard/traction bar that aligns the rear axle in place. It is somewhat adjustable and designed to give before an axle rod can be bent. I managed to hit hard enough that it bent a U into the traction bar and when that gave it bent the flange. New Axle: $335, New Panhard Bar: $100, and the guy that installed only charged my $100, including fluids. Thats right.....the Dude hooked me up big-time on that. I could only imagine what the stealership would have charged to do an axle swap, panhard swap, and re-align the rear axle back into place.

lol I was thinking the same thing but he didn't seem in the mood for jokes so I held my tongue.

You said the tire was out and inch to inch and a half, what happened if you moved the truck forward a few inches? Would that have changed anything distance wise?

Hi All,

So ummmm..........what happens if your off-roading and the truck slips into a rock as you tackle some obstacle in the terrain? Do you end up replacing the rear axles, wheel hub and pan-hard bar? I mean it is entirely possible to be in mud, snow, ice on a sloped surface and have the truck slide down into a rock, tree stump etc., knida puts some serious reservations on the off road ability of these trucks don't you think?
