First real "mod" of my thread. Finally put a proper DVD/iPod/Bluetooth/Sat Radio deck in the truck
Was going to do the Nav Bezel plus a Double Din unit, but spending $300 on a Nav Bezel, plus the $180 in needed harnesses to make the deck co-operate with BUS and Infinity I said sod it and got a flip out
So a big box from Amazon showed up
I went with the Clarion VZ401 flip out deck for a few reasons. I usually run Alpine but Alpine recently discontinued the Ai-net periphial attachment method. So my sirius adaptor is now obsolete. Luckily the Clarion model does not need an adaptor so my Sirius SCC! module plugs right into the deck. This way I can swap the SCC1 back and forth between my vehicles. I had clarions in the past and they were good decks so I felt ok with the name.
To make this sucker work in the Ram I also ordered the C2R CHY4 harness and bus adaptor by PAC.
Had seen better reviews to this over the Metra harness and I am happy to say it works great. Couple minor details, if you are using this with a DVD unit that requires switched ground, you cant use the parking brake cable line off the unit, its switched power. You can however use the reverse input. Also, if you are like me and have a remote start unit, you will need to cycle the key when you get in. The remote start doesnt seem to cause the PAC bus module to "wake up" so be aware of that. Also, you are going to lose your F-R fader controls in keeping the factory amps. Sound quality is great, deck is a little washed out in direct sun but overall my 3 day experience is good.
Steering wheel Controls
I decided to try the Axxess ASWC-1 module instead of the plug in PAC module for sake of auto programming
As some of you may have seen in my posts, its been a bit of an uphill battle. You hook the Axxess pink wire to the BUS+ (orange white pin 5) of factory harness and the Blue/Pink wire to the BUS-(white wire pin 6) Then you add power/ground and plug into deck. The ASWC is supposed to auto detect the rest.
Tried this, didnt go so well. I would say it was auto programming but my controls wouldnt function. Tried calling Axxess tech support, could get an answer, we tried manual programing, no dice, some other methods, nothing. Finally it seemed like I needed the PAC module so I ordered it. Well today I get an email from Axxess tech support asking me to try reprogramming the ASWC to a different radio code. I do, and IT WORKS! I'll probably still give the PAC module a go when it comes in and see if I like the button functionality there more, since the ASWC limits me to volume up and down, function, and preset up and down.
So heres the finished product
Im happy so far, time will be the telling factor. Sorry about the massive post, but I found information lacking about some of the parts of this install so I figured I'll detail as much as I can to potentially help out others in the future.
