Default 14 Sport Crew, need lift advice

I'm trying to decide which set up to go with and need advice. My truck is a 14 Sport crew 1500 with 3.92, considering a BDS 4", Bilsteins and 35's or BDS 6", Bilsteins and 37's. I will be using the truck to pull my 24ft pontoon boat, any issues with the lifted trucks and pulling?? Anyone know how tall the truck would be with either set up? I'm hoping it will still fit in the garage.

Thanks

You won't get an exact answer on the heights. But around 6'9" or so for the smaller lift and 35s and around 6'11"-7' for the larger lift and 37s.

I looked up the 2014 RAM specs:

Height = 74.6 inches

Lets take the tires at face value (35 &37 inches). Your actual figures will vary with brands.

Also note that our trucks sit approx. 3" ass high, but again your actual rake will vary from this. I will use 3" as a standard.

In terms of the lifts, I look at them this way -

4" lift = 4" front & 2" rear (2" is the figure on the BDS site to "level most trucks")

6" lift = 6" front & 3" rear (again to level the truck)

Why the discrepancy in levelling needed I don't know. I know my truck was less than 3" rake and my 6" BDS with 3" rear coil (as they call it) levelled my truck perfectly.

So for argument sake lets say 2" and 3" increases on the rear, and therefore on the roof because the 2 & 3 inches represent the degree of lift ABOVE level.

Stock tires are approx. 33"

So,

Option 1:

74.6" stock height + (35-33)/2 + 2" height increase = 77.6" or 6' 5.6"

Option 2:

74.6" stock height + (37-33)/2 + 3" height increase = 79.6" or 6' 7.6"

It's late so I hope my math isn't too off, but it gives you a roadmap for running your own specific figures. If you want to build more accuracy into it beyond that then measure your rake and tweak the above calculations accordingly.

Merry Christmas

Thanks for the info, RAM357 have you tried pulling anything with your truck yet? Could you post a few pics of your truck? According to your profile and mods it appears to be exactly what I'm after.

Merry Xmas

Thanks man, you'll love it if you opt for this build.

Unfortunately my wheels were sent in a 6 bolt pattern so for now you and I have to suffer looking at the truck on the stock wheels & tires

Here's one I got at the shop the day the lift was installed. You can see the level stance and get a sense of the amount of lift.

Cheers!

I pulled that prank where you repeatedly lock the doors JUST as your wife grabs the handle but thats about it Thats about all I've tried 'pulling'.

I don't think towing would be an issue. Guys have been doing it for decades and just throw on a drop hitch. At least pontoon boats are on the light side, no?

The pontoon doesn't weigh that much, approx. 4000lbs total.

It does add up, but I look at it not as getting a lift but rather replacing the stock suspension with a higher performance suspension system. And I don't plan on having to do it again. The coil-overs are all rebuildable so that will pay off down the road.

I'll PM you my Canadian supplier I went through. Good, solid guy that I've deal with for 2 decades here.

Cheers!

Due to the OE ride height variances, BDS offers three rear lift options to get your desired stance: 2″ coil spacers, 3″ Pro-Ride coil springs, or 5″ Pro-Ride coil springs.

The different rakes on the Ram 1500 vary from truck to truck and model to model. Variances in suspension, tire pressure, cab design, etc all play into it. Mine measures 6'4" stock. The average rake is 2.75". Mine was 2.6" and I leveled mine w Bilsteins set at 2.1" and it looks dead level. But if you level the truck exactly by measuring the from and back wheel arch heights and installing the corresponding level or lift, you'll find it looks nose high. You need to keep at least half inch to three quarters of an inch of rake for it to look the same.
