I wanted a good quality HID kit with a complete wiring harness to avoid a possible future problem with the TIPM module. I went with Retro Solutions 5000K HID Low Beam Lights 55 Watt installed in my quad headlights.

It was all plug & play and is working for the last 2 months.

I havethe projectors. I was worried about the wiring harness. Looks complicated and I didn't want to drill holes. Was the harness easy to figure out?

Do both the Retro Solutions set and Retro Shop system require the plastic housing to be drilled? Is this to make space for the bulb plug or the back of the bulb itself?

I had to drill 1" hole to get the wires into the light housing with the quad headlamps. There is a rubber cover that goes in the hole and seals well.

The light kits are very easy to install with the wiring harness. Simple plug and play. If you install the kit and have any problems or questions there are many people on this forum to help you. The 3 company's that are listed have very good instructions either online or come with the HID kits.

Bulbs types- are the ones that come with these kits a common HID style that we can replace from a common bulb manufacturer if we don't like the bulb color or one burns out?

As much as they prolly are, I wouldn't get bulbs from different manufacturers. They all might have different way of thinking what color range a xxxxK bulb is. So one manufacturer might think a 6000k is more blue, another might think it's more white. So your headlights might be slightly different colors if you get 2 bulbs from 2 different manufacturers.

If I ever get to buying spare bulbs, I'd go with the same company that I have my current HID's from.

With HID bulbs you should buy 2 at a time so that the color of the bulb match each other. Even with the original kit manufacture they get shipments of bulbs and are different lot numbers and the color is off a little. So if you buy a replacement bulb (1) it may not match what you received in your kit even though it has the same Kelvin temperature.

My concern is just getting a new set that fits the new harness. What is the bulb type that the retro shop and solutions use?
I come from some pretty nice white OEM HID's in my BMW and everyones idea of white is different. If I order what I'm told is closest to white (I've decided that would be 5000k) and I get a Christmas tree of blue I'm certainly going to be looking elsewhere for bulbs.
I just dont want to be put in a position where the place I get my HID's from suddenly disappears and I can't get bulbs because they use some proprietary bulb type.

Yes, 9006 fit the projectors fine. Now the fogs I've had an issue with. My first set of 9006 bulbs fit perfect, locked in place fine. But I ordered another pair because I wanted a different color temp and the 9006 bulb I got that time did not lock in place and was loose. I ordered another pair from somewhere else and the same thing. But 9006 fits the low beams fine in the projectors.
