Default Help with gearing change

Hello,

I'm in the process of lifting my 2013 RAM 1500 4x4 Laramie.

I ordered the BDS 6" coilover kit, Fuel Offroad Maverick 22x9,5 rims and Toyo Open Country MT 37x13,5x22 tires.

To compensate for the lager wheels and tires I would like to change my gearing.
I now have a 3.92 rearaxle, I would like fit 4.56 gears.

Is this available? And is it possible to fit this on the truck.
Where is it available? Is there any advice you can give me.

Thanks,
Best regards
Leon

Try Moes performance, I got my 4:56 gears from them. Very helpful and quick response.

How noticable will a gear change in my case be once the 37" tires are installed if I go from a 3.92 to 4.56 rear?

Will it compensate for the power-loss of the bigger tires?

Thanks,
Leon

Leons,

I thought I read on this forum somewhere that beyond 1012 model RAMs you have to swap axles. I'll be the first to celebrate if that isn't the case, but root around on the different threads. What I read is here somewhere...

*staying tuned*

PS: I'm not sure you've received your tires/wheels yet or if they're even in transit yet so I wanted to mention something. When you go with a less common wheel size (22 VS 20 for ex) the pool of available tires you can choose from becomes smaller. This affects you in the future after yours wear out, and you need something else. It also affects you in terms of availability if you ever end up with an unrepairable flat and don't have a spare. The garage you end up towed to will shrug and say sorry man, but you're looking at a 3 week wait if you want THAT exact tire. Now you could go with a different replacement but remember the available brands in a 22 are smaller and you definitely don't want to put out another $800 for a different tire/wheel just to get you up and running.

A wise man at my tire shop mentioned this years ago, and I always try and stick to it. It ends up taming one's choices again, but gives more options on the back end.

Cheers

I did a search and found you the thread I was thinking of Leons. Here is a quick quote, followed by a link to that thread:

Quote:
You'll need to swap gears if you want larger than 35's. Heres the rub though....you have a 2013 which means you have to change your front end out with a 2010 or older front differential. Why? Because for some reason Ram welded the ring to to the carrier in the front end. This requires having to swap out the entire front end. To swap gears, Matt @ Moes told me I would be looking at 4K to have it done.

Cheers

Hello 537,

That is true.. you have to swap axles.. but if that is the only solid option to get my get up n go back.. I think I'm going to do that.. IF it really makes a big difference... going from 3.92 to 4.56 ?

Regarding the rims and tires... remeber I'm from Netherlands Europe... 37x13.5x22 is NOT available here... trucks are rare here.. lifted ones almost non existant... only via special import from the US of A... takes 8 to 10 weeks by sea freight... I ordered 2 sets (8 tires) because of that reason... they should be here first week of january...

I ordered 22" Fuel Mavericks black 'n machined by the way...

Leon,

You're a wise, patient, deep-pocketed man on a mission!

I'd swear you mentioned getting 22x9.5 in another thread - looking through your link I see the 22's are avail in 10", 12" & 14". Is that what you're getting? 22x10?

Here it is:

Ooch! I ordered 22x9.5 rims and 37x13.5x22 tires... Guess I have to trim a little harder... Will start the build in january, I"ll post the trimfactor than....

Hey man you are awake!

Initially I inquired for the 22x10 but actually non of the listed Maverick sizes on the Fuel site were available... When I mailed Fuel Offroad the only available size was 22x9.5 ?? although these are not listed anywhere...?

I took the gamble.. we'll see what's in the box when they arrive...
I'll keep my fingers crossed, couse I really like those rims...

best
Leon
