Default MDS operation

Recent purchased 08, 1500 with 5.7 HEMI. How does one detect when MDS is operating. I assume it is cruising at highway speed. Other sites detail a dashboard LED on one of the computer wires on the firewall which is slightly messy. I'm guessing it's on one of the solenoids at 12v. The idea is to keep a light foot for better mileage on the highway. Puzzling why Dodge didn't include some kind of annunciator. Please advise! Am BSEE.

You can hear it in the exhaust, and it has a slight vibration when MDS is active. One of the members here installed an LED in his dash that activates when MDS comes on.

The ECO light doesn't necessarily indicate MDS activity.

^^^^ Correct, the ECO light comes on when you are driving in an economical manner. MDS may or may not be active however you will never have MDS active without the ECO light on. That being said I can always tell when MDS is active by the sound and the feel, truck almost feels bogged down and there is a slight shudder.

i drove 420 miles yesterday, most of that was at or below Sea Level
instead of a ECO Light, i have a Fuel Saver light & it was on for about 100 miles of the drive, i know although it was on, i could feel it change to 8 cylinders every so often, when i fell back a bit from the semi truck that i was escorting, as soon as i got back into the semi trucks draft, it would go back to 4 cylinders
