Default Can Standard 4WD be Replaced with 4WD Auto

Is it possible to replace the standard 4WD on a 2013 Ram Express with 4WD Auto?
If so what all would need to be changed besides the transfer case?
Has anyone done this?

Transfer case, maybe some wiring, and I imagine some software. But IDK for sure.

I don't know if anyone actually has a correct answer because it probably has not been done . Or it has been done only a few times, but with new vehicles, I see it being a bit more complicated then just a transfer case swap. With computers playing such a large role in the vehicles operation, I am certain it will need an upgrade or flash at the least. There may also be other parts that have to be replaced to work with the transfer case, but I honestly don't know.. I drive an 08 with just the 4x4 lock and 4x4 lock low options.

Even if you come up with all the hardware and electronics you may have a hard time getting a dealer to do the software updates to make it work. I imagine it would be better to trade the truck if you really want it.

As mentioned, it's more involved than just swapping out parts. You'll have to explore hardware and software needs as well. The auto 4x4 is a pretty sophisticated system, and it has to be synced with ESC, ABS, and TC. I would imagine very costly as well...

i don't understand why you would want to do this. one of the reasons i bought my power wagon was it has a t-case shifter like the older 4x4's. not an electronic dial to engage. it just seems like it would be more to go wrong. but i wish you luck if thats what your planning to do. keep us updated. i am interested to see if it's possible. i may not like the idea of the electronic 4x4 engage system, but i gotta respect someone who takes on a task like this just because he wants to.

I've not heard of this ever being done but I'd be curious to see if it's possible and what would be involved. I have the 4x4 Auto option and it performs great, just like AWD and no lock up while turning. For most conditions it's all I ever need for more traction.

I have often wondered while in 4WD "auto", if you take your foot off the accelerator, does your truck resort back to 2WD if your in a scenario where roads are slippery? I am asking based on a scenario not long ago while travelling at night on a stretch of highway covered in black ice, I let off the accelerator and nearly got into a jackpot, truck started to come around after a huge wind blast from a passing transport. After checking my shorts, I selected 4WD "lock" and travelled aways until the roads improved. My truck seemed more stable while locked while decelerating. Can anyone validate this? Thank you.
