I know what you mean about easy math. I use to change oil based on average speed multiplied by the square root of the sum of rear wheel torque and ambient temperature divided by the days of the month squared times a number I dreamed up multiplied by engine oil capacity divided by max horsepower cubed minus pi.

Now I just go by the oil indicator thingy.

I was observing 5k miles but since my oil life indicator started coming on between 2500-2900 miles and I started monitoring how the oil actually looked I have been operating on a 3000 mile interval .

I do not drive a lot of miles. In the last four months, I have driven about 1500 miles. I get free oil changes at the dealer every six months for three years. So, I change the oil every six months, unless I happen to take a trip and run up the miles.

First one today, 4600 miles (7500 ish KMS). OLM said 43%. I would have waited longer but some of the other threads made me paranoid about engine damage LOL

Did my first oil change at 3500mi switching to full synthetic mobile 1. Then just did my second one today at 9500mi and switched to full synthetic penzzoil platinum because it is Chrysler certified and mobile 1 isn't anymore. When I did the second one my indicator was still above 30%. Next oil change I plan on getting and sticking with amsoil full synthetic and changing every 7-7500mi as long as the indicator is good. A lot of people who run amsoil will even go past that.

Had my first oil change at the dealer yesterday (complimentary). I'll do them from here on out but the service manager said that they put a sticker in my window indicating next change. I said what about the oil indicator? He said ignore it, it's not accurate etc. Just do them in a normal cycle.

They recommended a 3000 mile change cycle. I'll probably go synthetic next time and do a longer change cycle then that though.

Sounds like a service department trying to make some extra money in my opinion! Ask the service manager about the recommended intervals specified in the owner's manual? Does he think that's inaccurate as well?

If it's inaccurate, I would ask him to fix it.
