The '12s seem to be holding up pretty good without many issues and no recalls...yet.

Honestly, I think it's all in the buyers preference. I don't think you'll find one model is any better or worse than another. Today's standards and tech helps greatly increase reliability and it doesn't really change from year to year like in the old days.

1st model of new generation:

The good: It's cool cause its new....new tech = better than old....typically more efficient than last model.
The bad: new tech = higher chance for problems because it has not been time tested yet.

2nd - 4th model of new generation:

The good: Tech has now been out for a while and most bugs/recalls/warranty issues have been fixed. Mostly increased reliability due to previous tech problems being solved.
The bad: Models have been out for a while so it doesn't have quite that "wow what's that?" appeal. Tech will start to become outdated.

I think it's all personal preference...As for me I went with a 2013, sure I've had a couple Uconnect issues but I was willing to take that risk because I like the new interior set up better than the old, and thus far I have no complaints!

Plus at this point Chrysler has perfected their Hemi's (Dad's '06 Charger R/T has over 160K on it) so I knew the core of the truck was always going to be there.

You guys really need to give the knob shifter a chance. Its faster, and frees up more space, plus you only interact with it at the beginning and end of your drive. My '13 has been problem free.

i will have to say this again, the shift knob is not really new, it is actually retro. quite a few cars had a knob or push buttons in the late 40s to early fifties.

I agree. I like the shift knob. It only took a couple days for me to get used to it .

Getting used to the knob shifter is well worth it to get the 8-speed. If it's going to be electronically controlled, there isn't much point in making a big mechanical device (floor shifter) that uses a electronic linkage just to mimic a traditional style when you can do the same task with a much simpler, smaller, more efficient object.

But I know, where are you going to rest your right hand now?!?!

^^^^^^Exactly what he said^^^^^ Not to mention all the new electronics that are issues. I am very happy I got the 2012 not the 2013 myself, I had to chose at the end of last year and I foresaw all these issues with all these new electronics. Not to say there are NO issues with the 2012 and the Uconnect crap but much less than newer models and she runs GREAT!!!!

Got used to the knob shifter fairly quick. IMHO if you want a manly shifter get a standard transmission with your next truck then you will be using that right hand much more. I remember the days when automatics weren't near as common as standards. Are there any new quad cabs out there with standard shift or can you order one?
