Default 2013 owners trailer brake control

So when I bought my Ram I was told by the sales man that my aftermarket trailer brake control could be swapped from my other vehicle and put into my new truck. I went down to my local Camping World to get the work done. The service guy said the 2013 Dodge Ram will not accept an aftermarket trailer brake. Dodge has reengineered it so that you have to buy their control and have them install it. It's integrated into the CPU. He said he has had to send several customers to the dealership and they are charging $500 to install their control. So I went down to the dealership and pinched a fit and they did it for $266. I will say I like it better. It's fitted to the dash and it uses the digital display between the speedo and tach to display the brake setting.

It is possible to add aftermarket brake controller. You need a very specific wire harness. Eastern trailer has the correct set up. But with that being said for about the same amount of money the integrated factory one looks better and works with the evic.

Just installed my old Prodigy 2 brake controller on my 2013 Ram Express. Ordered the 2013 Ram wiring harness (Part 3023-P) from ETrailer.com and watched their installation video on their website. It's a piece of cake once you find the factory connections under the dash - plug and play - takes about 10 minutes. Think the wiring harness cost about $20 or so and I received it within 2 days of placing the order with ETrailer.com. Everything is working fine.

Yeah I don't know what the issue was then. I already had Dodge install theirs. Should have signed up to the forum before I had it done. Just got the truck on Saturday and I'm going camping soon, so I hustled to get it done. Oh well.

So I went back to Camping World today to purchase a new ball mount and ran into the same service guy again. I told him about your post. His response was that they changed it mid production. They were able to do it on the 2013s when they first came out and then Dodge changed it. He said he went down to the local dealership to see if there was a special adapter and the service manager told him it is proprietary now and it can only be done through the dealership. He never looked at my truck though. I guess he assumed because it's the end of the year that it had the new setup. Also, I sent this message to etrailer. I'll post the reply when I get one.

Anyone know if the integrated brake controller from my 2010 will fit my new 2013?

Sounds like BS from Camping World. My truck was built May 12, 2013 and I got the 3023-P for my Prodigy P2 and it works fine. Picked the harness up for $36 from a local RV service center. Another local RV service shop had no idea the 2013 needed a different harness and was using the 2012 harness which can fry the whole system.

It is total BS I got the harness from e-trailer 2 plugs into the rams wiring and 1 into my P3 works just fine and only cost me 29.00 or so, as I already had the P3 from my previous vehicle.
