Default 2005 heater issue

Hey guys, I've got an 05 1500 SLT. Last winter the heater was melting hot. This summer the ac was ice cold. Now the weather's Cooling down and the heater won't give me anything but a strong antifreeze smell. Floor is dry so heater core isn't leaking but the reservoir was low(so I refilled). Any ideas I live in VT can't go without a heater.

You have a leak, my friend. Otherwise you wouldn't be smelling coolant. It may not be in the cab, but it's somewhere close. Find the leak, seal it and fill the system. I'm guessing you'll have some heat then.

Yeah my buddy had the same problem in his 2nd gen ram. He had a small leak in his heater core.

With stuff like this you have to know what you're doing. If you do great. Get in there and inspect it for any kind of leaks, If not for your own survival in Vermont bring it to a dodge mechanic

Thanks for the advice guys I will be checking for leaks this Thursday and if I don't find one to the mechanic it goes. I swear going to a mechanic is like letting the dentist brush your teeth. Its just weird.

Put a pressure tester on it. That way you can listen and look for a leak.

Alright guys sorry its taken so long. So I've Now checked the entire system Along with pulling my entire dash to check the heater core( which was fine) come to find out I get perfectly fine heat on the passenger side. This would normally tell me blend door but I checked all the doors and motors and they were fine. Got a new lockable radiator cap to see if I was losing coolant out of there. Last resort if its not a pressure issue I'm thinking the controller panel is bad and needs replacement. At this point still only heat on passenger side and none on defroster.
