Yes, The way I always upgrade is by unhooking the lockpick, update and than re attach the lockpic. I have upgraded befor with the lockpick attached but why take any chances.

Just tried doing the update on my RBZ radio and am beginning to think I am screwed. Inserted update disc (going from like 2x to 50) and it asked if I wanted to update (though didn't ask to update base files?) so said yes. Updated, went black, showed flashing, rebooted to show rams head and logo with uconnect underneath and it was just looping off then that, off then that. I can't get disc out and can't get it to do anything. Am I just screwed

bhepper

did you shut off the Ram ignition during the progress of updating ?
big mistake if you did, but not permanent

a couple of years back
i had to turn off my ignition to go into my place during a update, i locked up everything, took a pee, grabbed a beer & went outside only to find that the radio had locked up, cd could not be retrieved

then with the spare FOB in my pocket
i once again turned on the ignition, i set about trying to find a way to make the radio do anything noticeable
with one hand on the radio turning knobs & pushing buttons
the other hand pushing door buttons, window buttons, lock/unlock buttons, etc.

THEN i remembered reading that dodge radios are for some reason tied into the CLIMATE control buttons
I again turned the ignition off, took a sip of beer, turned the ignition back on
turned the Fan button as i was pushing buttons on the radio, i pushed, pulled, & turned every button on the A/C & heater & BINGO
the CD disc ejected

I then with the CD sitting on the dashboard, locked the Ram, took another leak, grabbed another beer, double checked to see if i had both FOBs

i turned on the ignition, reread the instructions & went through the whole process from the beginning
i watched & complied with the prompts to make the process proceed
i again had to go indoors, damn beer,
i used the spare FOB to lock up the RAM, looked at the radio through the door window, it was still doing its thing
I grabbed another beer, rechecked the radio, it was still doing its job
found a cigarette, this was better then satisfaction

I let the process run until it started asking for me to do something
i unlocked the Ram with the spare FOB & followed the requests
THEN the screen went black !!
No worries, it was checking itself to see if the download was complete
then it asked another few questions, i pushed the proper buttons

When the process was completed, it Ejected the CD on its own

--------------------------------------------------
when i think back on it, the only thing that i didn't try, was disconnecting the battery when the CD was stuck, waiting a bit, then reconnecting it
it may or may not have done something

i also didn't pull the radio out, connecting it up to a 12v power supply on a bench & trying to find the CD release, usually a little hole about the size of a paper clip wire

I don't know if it was updating or stuck in a loop. All it was doing was showing the splash screen then going black. I saw it go through the flash process before that though. I turned off the ignition after waiting for the update for 40 minutes. Now all it does is loop the splash screen then black, splash screen then black and I can't get anything to respond. I have the ignition off and IOD fuse pulled at the moment.

I would like to reiterate it did not ask to update anything before asking to update to software version 50.x.

Default Update with lockpick installed

I just updated my RHR 730N in my 2012 ram Express and I did leave my Lockpick Freedom in motion hooked up. Everything went just fine. Steps I used to update:
1.Download latest software version from SOX's server
2.Burned the Image to a Verbatem DVD using CD Burner XP
3.Backed the truck out of the garage and left it running,I did not turn off the truck until successful update was confirmed.
4.Inserted DVD and followed the on screen prompts
5.Waited for the update to complete and when the radio rebooted it loaded the disk again and asked me if I wanted to update, I canceled and I removed the DVD
6.checked the software version to confirm it had updated
This is the second software update I have done to this radio and both times it worked the same way. I think a image burned to a good quality DVD and not turning off the truck are key to this working.

A CD works fine for the update and is plenty large enough. A DVD is overkill.

I would think you took a huge risk doing this to a RHR. This update is for the RBZ and RHB.

The step by step install instructions are in the TSB 08-061-13.pdf

bhepper, did you get your's figured out? Are you sure you downloaded the correct software? This worked better than the update they sent out in the mail.
