Default mcgaughy on a 4x4

I have heard rumors that the mcgaughy kit works on a 4x4 crew cab, but they say it wont.

Can any one comfirm this. I was going to go with the ground force, but the mcgaughy kit seems better made, and is cheaper.

Does the deluxe kit with the spindles work?

Coils vs Struts

The reason MCG' says its not compatible
is because their economy 2WD kits have coils up front with a separate shock absorber mounted inside the coil.

Pic below is the Ground Force 2WD front suspension VVV

4WD have different coils actually mounted to the struts,
so I don't see how they could be compatible/interchangeable ???

You "could" probably make a McG's 2WD Deluxe Kit (+$150 more) with drop spindles work on a 4x4,
and just maintain your factory coil/strut setup up front
But it would likely screw with your CV angles and you should probably upgrade to Kore shafts to prevent premature wear,
...But there goes any money you may saved over the GF 4x4 kit.

I love my Ground Force Kit, it was well worth the cost (IMHO) about $700 and change if you shop around
and I believe it's the only one to offer Progressive Rate Coils on all four corners for superior ride and handling.
Engineered to ride better than stock, only firms up when you toss her aggressively into a corner.

...from my build thread:

hehe, still had my tech# from the drag races the night before on my windows lol

Have a look at my build log, I've dropped my '09 4wd. I would post pics here but I can't access my photobucket account while I'm up north. I used the Ground Force front coil springs coupled with the McG's drop spindles and the result is quite nice, however, I have destroyed one CV joint already and the angle of the upper balljoint is pretty extreme. The spindle is actually 2.5" shorter than the 4wd spindle, aside from that, everything's the same. I have ordered and will be installing a set of Kore high angle Inner CV joints and a Michigan Metal Works upper control arm with a spherical joint to deal with both issues. But if you don't feel like dropping an additional $1300 on this swap, then I'd just stick with the GF drop springs.

Ground force it is then.

I'm just worried about the lack of travel in the front with the GF kit

I've never bottomed out my suspension,
are you planning on off-roading with it?

My front only came down about 1", rear was 3.75" after it settled in

I am not planning on offraoding. Actually following in your foot steps and preparing for boost.

There are no bump stops on the front of a 4WD Ram
like I said its only 1" lower (front) and the shitty stock spring is replaced with a superior progressive rate coil

If you're concerned about the rear,
the only way it would bottom out is if you load the bed or have a heavy tongue weight trailer.

...both which cold be resolved with a set of air bags that fit inside the rear coils for $100

Really only 1" of drop in the front? Thats a litte disappointing. But I'll take your word for it. I am going to get the ground force kit.

Gotta remember it's STILL a 4x4,

If you want to risk screwing up a couple $800 CV shafts,
by all means drop it lower by using a drop spindle.

I just wanted mine a little lower up front with Better Springs
and Leveled out back...so if 2/3 is really more like 1.25"/3.75" I'm happy

The Factory Rake is Ridiculous

Before/After pic's:
