Default 2013 Ram HIDs with the new projector headlights

Hey guys,

I'm very interested in converting to HID Low, High and Fog lights from stock. I've researched and found Headlight Revolution. Has any one installed this kit (GTR Lighting GEN 3 HID conversion kit (35W)). I live in canada and cannot find anyone here that does a HID conversion on the new headlights.

Well you have a few options here.

If you are wanting to just put HID's in your Ram I'd recommend you check out retrosolutions for a nice kit. I'd also recommend you get the 55W 5k if you want that OEM look and great light output.

Now if you want to get the halogen projector changed out to an HID projector you need to head over to the retroshop(dot)us. There you can see about getting that projector changed out and getting HID's.

The retroshop will give you the best results for light output.

Here are some pictures.

Stock projector, stock bulbs:

Stock Projector, 5K 55W HID bulbs:

Output of stock projector 5k 55W HID's:

Now here is the same headlight with that HID projector installed.

Looks about the same right? Well..

HID Projector with 5k 55w HID's:

Notice the nice sharp cutoff vs the stock projector. The HID projectors also project the light much further than I can capture with a camera.

Hopefully this helps a bit?

Nice job. I just got my truck and was used to the HID's in my Commander and loved them. Were they difficult to install? Any ballasts to mount, etc.?

Yup, I'm looking for the exact same upgrade and have the same questions. I have a concern that I read somewhere with the lens' chipping with the 55w lamps because of the heat. Wondering if someone can clear this question up as well.

saw something on retroshop about sending in your headlight and they can dress it or something? make some modifications. not to sure site doesnt give enough detail

others have went with a 33w 8000k and say it works great and its all PnP, not to sure what to do.
would rather have true HIDs but not at the cost of replacing lens

Thumbs up HID in 2013 Ram 1500

It is quite a simple task to do with the 55 watt kit from Retro Solutions. I did my low beams as soon as I got my truck (2013 Ram 1500 Sport) and it went without any issues.

I personally highly recommend using the 55 wat kit, it is just that much brighter and seems to suite the new headlamp housings. The install is easy, it's all plug and play for the wiring. You do need to drill a small hole in the back door on the headlight assembly to allow the wires for the HID bulb to exit through. The kit includes a rubber grommet that seals the headlight from dirt and moisture again.

Once on the website and you've selected 55 watt and head lights, scroll down near the end, just enter in the bulb type and color you want (6000k is great) then you must choose dodge ram 2013+ then select regular or slim ballast's (regular arent bad to work with) and for the new Ram you do NOT need the bulb capping.

Your bulb types are as follows:

Low Beam: HIR2 (9012)
High Beam: HB3 (9005)
Fog Lamp: HB4 (9006)
**Fog lamps will require purchase of the relay harness, this information comes from Retro Solutions customer service**

I have comparison pictures of the stock halogen lights vs the HID lights if you want to see them. I still havent figured out how to insert a picture in here yet.

I have had mine installed for over 3 months now, I did a 1600km trip to Manitoba soon as I installed them and nothing over heated or showed any signs of over heating.

Bulb capping is where they basically dip the tip of the bulb in some kind of coating to help with glare and send the light back into the housing and then out in the direction it is meant to be going. The new Ram's have some kind of cover that does the same thing without needing the bulbs to have the capping done. However for the fog lights, you will need the bulb capping done.
