My oil runs at about 235-240 regardless if I'm driving it or it's idling. I figured this is the optimal temperature since it never fluctuates even when towing. Should it be that much lower (180)?

From what I've read that's the way the 13s are. I've done a lot of reading on this and it looks like the highest conventional oil should be run at is 240 and 260 for synthetic. My vehicle was running about 200 not towing and at least 220 when towing. What are you towing? If its a smaller lawn trailer weighing 2000lbs you'll probably see no change I'm towing a 11 foot by 8foot by 30 foot brick down the road so lots of wind reistance along with weight. This was more ease of mind thing as all trucks should have warning lights but I just wanted it for peace of mind and some help on those hot days

Yep mine was normal at 200 before the cooler and spiked to 258 going up a 6% grade. thats when I decided on the cooler. Once I get some pictures of the install I'll post.

Do they have a cooler from the factory? It seems like some trucks can with a cooler from the factory, some times it runs the oil through the radiator, which at times wouldn't cool it very much.

I'm towing a 5500lb travel trailer. Lots of mountains here so almost always going up hills until we are on our way home.

My truck is pretty much the most factory equipped truck from ram. My half ton came with e range tires along with class 4 hitch and the 3.92 rear all standard. This does not mention anything about oil cooler only heavy duty cooling and transmission cooler. I wonder what is different in the 2500 to make the cooling better for the oil?

I never tow anything...EVER. and I watched that "how too" with rapt attention. Really nice work. Excellent clear and easy to understand.

Some trucks and some cars come with an external oil cooler and/or and oil cooler that uses the radiator. I have a 3/4 ton truck and I can't even tell you what it has. For sure most of them come with an external tranny cooler plus the one in the radiator. I'm also think my wifes 300C and my Challenger has a power steering cooler, which isn't much more than routing the line in front of the car to cool it down a bit.
