Default Help with Tail Light Wiring - Tips?

I've got some custom tails to install but I'm no longer plug and play on these. So I've done some research. I have landed the Rear lighting wiring diagram so I feel fairly confident about wire colors and function.

I want to be sure I do this clean the first time so for those that have done this or for those with experience is wiring here's a few questions I'd really like to get off my shoulders before I begin this install.

1.) Given no "plug & play" anymore my assumption is that the tail light plastic harness within the truck is no longer part of the equation here and I should simply snip it off ? I know...duh...but just being overly cautious.

2.) What are a few options for making my hardwire connections besides twisting them together and covering with electrical tape. While I'm sure this would work something tells me there is a better way to do this.

3.) What are some tips/tricks/guidelines that might be good to follow with a tail light install like this?

There are adapters that plug into the stock harness bulb location, then you can cut in to the wires in the adapter and the oem harness is unharmed.

The best connections are soldered and covered with heat shrink tubing. Heat shrink crimp connectors are the next best.

Yup, nice, that's what I would do, there cheap and you don't mess up your OEM wiring.

So Ya, What snrusnak said.

Your local auto parts dealer may have them.. But if not, then you should be able to get them through the dealer.. Also, you may be able to "customize" a wiring harness from an install kit for wiring a trailer connect plug on your truck as some of these break into the wiring to the rear lights via plug and play.

check out ebay, got lots of stuff on there, better to wait for these over a week or so then cutting into the OEM wire harness.

here is an example of what i mean

http://www.ebay.com/itm/HARNESS-3157...f51844&vxp=mtr

you can pick up a couple of these, cut off the female and just use the male to link up your lights.

I found these in like 2 min, if you research it you might find just the male connector with wiring.

Slight change of plans here...

So I am going to leave the bulbs in the EOM housing and leverage the plug and play that will exist there. I then need to tap into the various wires for the 3 new halo's installed in the OEM housing. There are 2 large red rings and 1 single white ring for reverse.

The question now becomes what is the best way to tap in here? Would t-taps work ? Can t-taps be used for ground as well? I have a ground wire coming off each of the Halo's so i'd look to combine all 3 of those and tap into the black ground past the OEM adaptor.

t-taps DO NOT belong ouside the cab! they will cause nothing but problems with corrosion! solder and heat shrink are the BEST way to do it with crimp/heatshrink being a close second.

So glad I asked this. Thank you. I'm going crimp/heatshrink here!

Hey guys maybe you can help me. I bought the Recon Xtreme tailgate light strip. It has the 4 pin plug and 2 other wires that have to be hooked up. I need a hot 12v and I need the positive wire of the drivers side reverse light. Can I get this at the 7 pin trailer plug???
Thanks in advance.
