After doing this with the sub box spacers, the seat still securely locks to the back wall just as before. There is still plenty of hook holding onto the bar on the back wall. You cant just pull it off that's for sure. The seat bottom has to be raised at its highest point, about 3/4 of the way up, before the back latch will let go. I have a 5 yr old as well, and I definitely wouldn't have this if I felt it was unsafe.

Sounds good, you saying it that way makes it sound safe. I might have to think about doing this.

Thanks for the writeup. I just did mine last week. It takes longer with the split seat, but it worked great. This is a must-have if installing amp back there. Who'd want to remove seat every time you want to fine tune your amp? I was surprised on how easy it was to manually cut through those hooks with a hack saw. I was going to get the dremel out, but it wasn't needed.

Has anyone done this with an 08 Ram? Are the hooks the same or different?

FWIW on mine after cutting 5/8" off like everyone else it didn't work. I had to cut ANOTHER 5/8" off making the total removed 1 1/4". Then it works perfectly.

wonder if thats a 2010 thing or if others you need to remove that, still 1 1/4 is a to remove. Did you put a spacer under the seat? or just cut off 1 1/4" off the hook?
