Well, last week I got the truck back from the body shop. The tailgate had to be repaired because it got backed into by the father-in-law. His insurance covered 100% and it was a totally understandable ding, so I wasn't worried about it at all. While it was in, I also got the hail damage repaired from the baseball sized hail that we got back in July.

Took off for the weekend for a wedding in Minnesota. Figured that since the truck was now in tip top shape again, I would park it under the carport while we were gone (took the Suburban for the trip). Well while I am gone, Spearfish got about 39 inches of snow. Got called by a buddy and then sent this picture.

Got home and it took about 5 hours to get the snow cleared and the car port torn off. The post tore through the tonneau cover and dinged the cab, but really I came out very lucky compared to what it could have been.

Took the truck to the body shop and besides the tonneau cover the only damage we could find was to the cab. He quoted me just over $2,000.00 to repair. He said he is pretty confident they can pull the dent out and then repaint.

I only have 3,500 miles on the truck. With the hail, the tailgate ding and now this, I have about a dollar per mile in repairs. Definitely could have been worse so overall I am happy and feeling grateful it wasn't worse.

Wow.... that pretty much makes a guy sick to the stomach. Definitely a few unfortunate things to happen. But like you said, it definitely could have been a lot worse.

It was amazing to me that there wasn't damage to the box rails or anything. Even the floor of the bed came out unscathed which was surprising to me. The estimator for the insurance company thinks it was the combined snow load already on the carport and then a large branch with all the snow it had on it that came falling onto the carport that caused everything to finally give out. He thinks that it probably came down onto the truck relatively slowly instead of a hard impact. I agree with him. If that had smashed down at once it would have been more damaging.

But I have been wanting a headache rack anyway, so this convinced me to go ahead and pull the trigger on it. I chose the cab protector made by B&W. I really like the looks of them. It is supposed to be here next week. I will just put it on my self once the truck gets repaired.

Here is a pic of the one I am getting.

You know what I thought of when I saw that picture? Your truck just prevented you from having to clean that carport off the ground. What a perfect place to put a load... in the bed. Sure the cab got a little dinged but still... nailed the landing!

great looking truck, those wheels you posted are similar to the style of mine which are not very difficult to clean.

sorry about the damage to your truck... ive had my truck the shop 3 times. once my fault 2 at the hands of vandals. ( dent and scratch) always sucks to put her in but great to get her looking almost brand new.

Damn the luck. Hopefully you've had your share of the bad kind and can now get some of the good kind.

I tend to be a pretty optimistic person. After working for nearly 20 years in emergency services, I have seen what happens when things go really wrong. I came out very lucky and have good insurance. Nothing is ever perfect so I try to look at the averages. On average, I still absolutely love climbing up in that beast and running it down the road. Can't wait to get it repaired and get going again.

The headache rack is delayed another week (free shipping) so I am not going to complain too much. The Ranchhand Grill Guard came into the shop yesterday. Going to try and get it installed tomorrow if I can. Also got a new Access Lorado tonneau cover getting installed tomorrow if it shows up like it is supposed to. Hoping anyway. I will post pics when I get them on. I have an LED off-road light ready to go on the grill guard as well. Sorry for the ramble, but the wife is working and the kids aren't old enough to understand their dad's excitement about it.
