Default bypass AC with shorter belt?

I know I can bypass the AC by removing the compressor and putting a pulley in its place, and use the same belt. I am trying to avoid that as I may want to fix the ac at some point. I just want to bypass everything as is.
The shorter belt (non AC) doesn't work, its too short because the pulley position is different on trucks without AC.
Years ago I had a mechanic install a belt which was sized in between the AC and non AC belts which worked fine so I know its possible. Does anyone know which belt I need to use??

Don't know that you'll get a response so just throwing this out there. You can run a string around and measure the string. If the engine has an auto tensioner then figure out where it is with the belt now and mark that point, so when you measure you can get the same amount of tension on it. Then go to the store and find a belt that long.

This happened to me just as I was getting to an Autozone. They were great and we found out by trial and error that Duralast 905K7 was the right size. Don't know if it will work for your year truck (Gen 1) but this worked for me. By the way the pulley to replace the A/C compressor has mixed reviews and is not recommended for long term use as the base tends to move, it comes with the wrong bolts, and the pulley is plastic( this is on the Dorman replacement). I was going to try it until I read the reviews on Advanced Auto website. Hope this helps.

Thanks all for your help!
I went through almost a dozen belts before finding the right one. Turns out it was a 90" belt, Dayco 5070900 worked for me. After a number of frustrating back and forths at pep boys and autozone with the wrong belts, I took
snrusnaks advice and measured the distance with a piece of string. that gave me a ballpark size to work with.
armed with that info I went to the Dayco website, they have a very handy "dimensional" part look up http://www.accessdayco.com/Dimensional.aspx
I chose a few within the size range till I found the right fit.

I learned a few things about belt sizes in the process. the "7" in the part number is the number of ribs and the "900" is the length - 90.0"

The Duralast 905K7 that Shadowmustang suggested likely would have worked as well, as its only a half inch longer, the tensioner pulley should give you a little leeway to work with.
