Default 2003 Ram ST - SLT Conversion

I recently retired my 2002 QC SLT with 325K miles in favor of a 2003 reg cab SL with 68K miles. Unfortunately the new truck is only a V6 and doesn't have much for options but I plan to change all that in the next couple months.

It was a one owner, garage kept unit that was super clean with low miles.

Here is how it looked the morning I picked it up...

and here it is again the following afternoon...

In just 16 short hours I was able to swap over the following list of parts from my old truck to the new.

20" Factory Alum rims with new Bridgestone Allenza tires.
20" factory spare with new Yokahama Parada spec-x tire
Bilstein 4600 series shocks
Wearever Platinum series brakes all around
Firestone rear airbags
rear bumper, including receiver hitch and 7 pin trailer plug
Tailgate assist cylinder
hood support lifts
Sylvania Halogen headlamps
Airraid Air cleaner filter
New spark plugs
Mobil 1 5w30 oil
Mopar oil filter
100W aircraft landing lights in place of factory foglamps
billet grill and airdam inserts
Power seats
RB1 Factory head unit with CD/DVD and NAV
Sirius Sat receiver
Midland cell phone booster

and yet again the following weekend after tinting windows and painting the bumper topper red...

I've been busy the last week or so gathering parts for the next upgrade. This truck is getting a full power upgrade including;
Power windows,
Power door locks
Keyless entry
Power mirrors
Overhead console with homelink
and am now considering doing the infinity sound at the same time.

I have just about everything ordered now so UPS and Fedex should be making a few stops at our house next week. I found a few components out of a 2004 Dodge Ram SRT-10 so it will look pretty sharp in the end. I have to make one more stop at the auto wrecker to get the rest of the harness and door lock components to begin getting things in order to accept the upgrades.

The SL model harnesses don't have any of the wires needed so nothing is going to be plug and play on this project. To keep the factory look I am having to buy new instrument panel, heater control and steal all the harness and connectors out of a couple donor vehicles and fab up the rest.

Door panels...

Radio Bezel...

door switches...

SL trim is base trim with very few options. Crank windows, manual locks but it does have carpet on the floors, air, cruise and tilt.

An SLT truck that doesn't have options will at least have the connectors and wires so almost all options are plug and play. The SL does not have these points so I will have to add all of them. Thankfully I found the door harnesses and was able to get a portion of the harness that goes up into the dash so now I just have to fill in the gaps under the dash. Windows and mirrors will be fairly easy but if I want to utilize the OEM keyless entry system then I will have to construct the harness right up into the instrument cluster as well as replace the cluster with one that will accept the RKE module. I happen to already have one I bought for parts so I will have to see if I can swap the backplane so I don't have to have the new one programmed for my mileage.

All the parts showed up this week so the conversion will begin tomorrow morning after a quick tip to the auto wrecker for the last few harness pieces and door lock actuators. That is if I can actually convince them to move the donor vehicle so I can get the drivers door open this time. I will never understand why it's so hard to buy parts from a wrecker. Seems like they are all hoarders saving their parts for a nobler cause than mine.

LOL, I must have my head up my azz. You are correct, it is ST and it's too late to change the thread title now.

Too busy thinking up mods to pay attention to the trim level I guess. There's also no badging on the truck to remind me either.

I started the conversion this afternoon after I got back from the auto wrecker. I scored the complete drivers door harness, both power lock actuators, a power mirror, temp sensor, Body Control Module and an Infinity amplifier, all for $15. I also chopped off every connector I could find so I should have plenty of terminals to use to patch together the new harness.

I got the power mirrors, lock actuators, heater control and overhead console installed today. I ran into a couple snags when I discovered that the door panels are different from a standard cab to a QC and the window motors are the wrong ones. I should be able to swap the inner panels between the door panels so that's not to big of a deal but the window actuators will have to be exchanged for the correct ones.

Since I was stalled out on the install, I dug into the harness and started to put my hands on all the points I'm going to have to add. It's going to be interesting but it shouldn't be too bad. I'm mapping it all out tonight and building a wiring schedule for tomorrow. Hopefully I can have the harness complete and tested tomorrow so the rest is plug and play.

The keyless entry module for the Ram is located within the instrument cluster but the Durango has an external module that I also hope to utilize and avoid modifying or replacing the cluster. This was a big discovery today so I hope it works out.

So far, the 2001 to 2003 Dodge Durango has been the donor vehicle and all the parts are working out great. The only connectors I haven't been able to find are the two for the overhead console.
