Default Anyone build their own exhaust?

Been looking through the section looking for people that have built their own exhaust. I have the welder, some fab skills and the free time. Looking to others who have done this for pics and info.

My full exhaust plan is: JBA shorties, stock cats, 2.5 pipes from there to a magnaflow 14468 muffler (dual in/out with internal X) from there it's in the air to A. turn downs, B. in front of the back tires, C. over the axle and out the back, D. over the axle and out the sides. Maybe I'll do a poll for the last part to decide.

All the pipes will be from a Flowmaster 15936 kit.

So anyone with personal knowledge and experience in building an exhaust on their trucks chime in.

good luck man! can't wait to see what you do. Most people either just buy full kits, or do like I did and take it to a custom exhaust shop.

I had this done...cut off right behind the cats, welded in 2.5" stainless back to the Magnaflow Y pipe...then 18" Magnaflow and stock duals after...

I brought the Y and Magnaflow to my custom mechanic and said to do what he thought was best...if I'd have known we were doing all that piping I would have just done DI/DO 18" with the internal X pipe...might end up swapping to that or maybe the 14" even...

I went the true duals route. Mag X-pipe behind the cats to twin 14" Maggies and into stock blacked out tips (resos intact). Semi-sleeper. No drone, nice quiet rumble, but when you get on it.....people take note.

A buddy and me did mine. All mandrel bent pipe. I reused as much of the stock system as possible as it is good stuff(mandrel bent and stainless steel). All the new pipe I used was aluminized. The muffler is a knock off magnaflow all stainless 14" straight through muffler from ebay. I reused all stock hanger locations, replaced the y pipe with the magnaflow y pipe, and reused the stock tail pipe(I'm not in to seeing the exhaust tips). It is 2.5" in to the y pipe, then single 3" the rest of the way. My buddy has a TIG but we used my MIG(actually did it with the flux core) because it's way easier. Since I welded with mild steel wire I sprayed all the welds with high heat black paint to prevent rust/corrosion. I might make long tubes down the road...

We welded most of it but left it clamped in a few spots so I can easily remove it all and easily drop the transmission.

Here's a sound clip, rolling in to the gas up until about 20-30mph around a bend then flooring it.

Cost me roughly $100-$150.
