Default Ideas on how to get wiring to the roof!

Need some assistance before i get crazy and start drinning holes, I purchased a trailer wiring harness that contains 7 wires in nice rubber loom. I plan to get that bundle to the roof somehow some way to control my basket mounted Slew of lights.

Ideas on how to get wires up there without them showing or cuasing a leak?

There is not a million ways to get a cable out to the roof, your going to need to make a hole, I would maybe bring it out next to the Sat Antenna, the side you don't see it from the street, look into some Black RV Lap Sealant, there are 2 types, the none self leveling one is best for holes, put some on the outside around the wire and some on the inside also, Lap Sealant will stay flexible and not dry out over time.

I was thinking a hole with a rubber grommet and a crap load of RTV, then if i ever get rid of the truck i can just plug the hole with a blank grommet.

You could always run the wires up the inside of the "B" pillar. Then take it to the roof from the top of the door to avoid drilling the roof.

You could always do a custom cannon plug. That way if you ever have to take the rack off, it will still be sealed. You're going to end up with a larger hole, but cleaner look when the rack is on...

I agree with asur, use a rtv silicone. offered in a variety of colors, get what matches closely and gum up everything.

another idea I had considered when I was going to mount lights on my roll bar was running the wiring inside the roof liner, running the wiring out the back of the third brake light seal. no outside drilling that way. only drilling you might have to do would be inside the cab to get the wiring between the outer and inner roofs, but it's not exterior and will be covered by your interior roof liner.

any gaps in your third brake light seal could be filled with a black or clear rtv

I like the cannon plug idea. Going to get one and see if it will work.

You know what DoubleOram said is a good idea, you can pick up on ebay a 3rd tail light for like 50$, drill a hole in it to pass your wire and RTV it with the Clear one, if you sell the truck or remove the rack, just put back the original 3rd tail light.
