Exclamation To those of you who have used VHT Nite Shades, PLEASE HELP!!!

Got busy and tinted my tails today. One problem, they're not shiny!!! =)

Process
-Removed lights
-Wetsanded with a dot of dish soap and 2000 grit
-Cleaned with alcohol and let air dry
-2 coats of VHT, 5 mins between each coat
-45 mins dry time
-Wetsanded with dot of dish soap and 2000 grit
-Cleaned with alcohol and let air dry
-4 coats of clear, 5 mins between each coat
-1 hour dry time

Lights looked perfect at this point, but hand some orange peel. After the hour dry time I wet sanded them again, then used Mequires Ultimate Compound, and hand buffed.

They looked like crap after that. Still all foggy and full looking, so I sanded a little more and re-cleared them. They are drying now.

What did I do wrong?? Why didn't they buff out shiney??

Did I wet sand the clear too soon maybe? Any help is appreciated!!!

Make sure you rub really hard with the compound at the end. Also You may want to try an electric hand buffer since you will be able to apply more pressure with that and they generally just work better than doing it by hand.

I did the method you did up top with the exception of wetsanding before the clear coat and mine came out fine. I guess you could say they aren't as shiny as glass but they still had a nice finish to them.

I Just did mine and honestly all I did was clean with AC/ delco window cleaner (has alcohol in it), wiped it dry... did like 2/3 times... dried it all... and sprayed it on... only doing 1 coat.. and looks real good.

When I did my nephews, I'd did everything you did but let them dry over night, 1 hour is not very long for the clear to fully dry, his turned out great. I would just let the clear dry longer

Does anybody have any pix of how they turned out on their truck? I wanna do this to mine cause I've only found one set of after market lights with a dark red lens and I personally think they look like shit (I'd sooner keep the stock look but darken the lights up. I think it looks cleaner then the aftermarkets) lol. I just wanna make mine so you can still see the red. I figured it'd look good with the mineral grey

Tons of people have used nightshades on their trucks.

Honestly the best picture I currently have. If you would want to see a better picture, send me a message or post a message on my wall and I will take one.

So this is kindaa off topic, but it also goes hand in hand.

I noticed Candian Hemi Pride has a LED bar.. I also know that if someone tints their tail lights too dark, it becomes more so illegal DEPENDING on how dark you go.. But I'm curious, is it NOT illeagal at all when you still CLEARLY have a fully visible brake light, and turn signals? As in an LED bar with turn signals?
