RamTech, Sorry but have seen first hand exhaust welded on a early 2000 gm truck.
When done truck would not start. The problem, ECU fried. It can and does happen.
Maybe on the newer stuff the car companies fixed this.
When I worked at NAPA, if you replaced your ECU for whatever reason, it stated to make a ground from your body to frame to prevent static electricity from zapping ECU. So there must be something to this.
Forgot, my local bodyshop "always" unhooks battery before working/welding on cars/trucks.

I'm not saying it can't happen, I'm saying that your statement about not welding on computer controlled vehicles is wrong.

RamTech, this is why you are so valuable to the Z

Well I disagree. Too many ECU's, MSD boxes that don't work after welding on vehicle.
To me why even take the chance. Some guys do, some don't.
I will agree to disagree.

That's fine, but please don't post incorrect information on the forum.

It's definitely not bad gas.... To me it sounds like he was driving and it was running rough which indicates its not running on all cylinders.. And then the engine light comes on and confirms that's indeed it has a misfire.. To me it sounds like a coil issue / ignition so as he kept driving it. It most likely went into a limp mode and now won't start as a safety issue to prevent further damage to that cylinder .. Such as being washed out from the fuel exc....

I'm sure you already know 3 things make an engine run. Air-Fuel & Spark. If she was running rough & throwing misfire codes w/ your tune in it but then your tune was removed & the codes were cleared next you tried to fire it up then the engine cranked w/ no bang or pop. The codes are gone but the s.e.l. stays on? I'm just curious if when you attempted to fire it up if you heard the fuel pump running or not?
