Default MDS stays on with city driving, not highway

Hi everyone,

Just purchased a 2011 Crew Cab Laramie 2WD with 3.55 gear ratio. My MDS is staying on almost 100% of the time with city driving, but I'm still only getting 12.5-13mpg. It DOES NOT come on with interstate driving on flat roads. I'll set the cruise for 67mph and would expect the MDS to kick on as the engine is not stressed and shouldn't need 8 cylinders. As a result, I'm only seeing 17mpg on the highway at 67mpg....which in my opinion is unacceptable. I know it's a big engine truck, but my old 2005 Ram without MDS would get 17mpg on the highway.
Is this normal for it not to come on with interstate driving? Is there any kind of flash that can be done to correct this? I just kind of figured that the ideal time for it to come on was with flat driving on the interstate around 65mph.
Thoughts?

At 67mph on a flat road, you should be getting around 19mpg or more with the MDS working properly. I'd take it to the dealer for a diagnostic check.
Sounds like you need a trip to the service dept. and let them check it out. Other people with similar issues have had a simple ecm update done to correct the issues.
Once it is corrected the MDS will work all the way up to about 75mph, any faster and the mds will not engage. I have gotten a solid 17mpg's running 85mph for 340 miles straight.

If you see the ECO light one that doesn't mean mds is on. It just saying you driving economically. I have mine shut off and watching the instant mpg's will easily hit and stay around 18-22 mpg at 65 mph

Anytime mine says ECO, it sounds like a 4 cyl. and runs like a 4 cyl.

Who knows though, so much info on this forum from techs. and engineers.. I usually loose interest in these 1000 page threads too easily, my ADD light turns on.

MDS can be on when the ECO light is on. I have my MDS turned off and the ECO light will still come on.

My ECO light does not come on at all while MDS is off?

Some people are adding a MDS light, so that they know when it is on
The ECO light just means that you are driving ECOnomically

It is unusual that the light is doing what it is
