Default on the fence with y pipe

so i ordered my maggy y about a month ago, this coming saturday my brother is doing my exhaust for free at his shop. from reading more i dunno if i should bother with the y pipe, he does not have a mandrel bender is a normal crimp bender(not the french fry looking bend still smooth but does decrease pipe size a little). Yeah its not costing me a dime to do but is it worth it at that point. i was going to go catless at first and do the y pipe but i enjoy my low end torque so i decided not to gut the cats and just do the y with new muffler. now im thinking leave the cats leave the y so i retain my low end and just get rid of the huge resonator after the y, install my 14" borla xr1 and just dump tip it at the end of the cab. I want a wicked sound and i want it LOUD! but i also wanna gain performance all across the board. so i need some ideas guys what does everone think i should do???

Depends on how far your going with mods. If your only going to do exhaust and a couple of bolt-ons (i.e. CAI), I really don't think it's worth the effort. If your going all out with mods (tuner, CAI, TB, headers, cam, etc.) I would say go for it, but only if it were mandrel bent ss pipe work. I think I'm in the minority about this subject on this forum, though .

i had low expectations about the y-pipe. me and the exhaust guy were surprised how much of a difference it made. it def. made the exhaust deeper and louder.
i already had a flowmaster muffler and jba headers before i had the ypipe installed.
mine is not madrel bent either.

Removing the resonator will not effect power output, and will barely make it louder. You will increase resonance/drone a lot though. I'd leave the resonator.

You can order mandrel bends then have them welded in. I'm doing my exhaust this weekend and that's what I did was buy a bunch of mandrel bends and I'm going to make a new y pipe and change the muffler. If I ever make long tubes I'll remove the cats too. The resonator is not at all a restriction.

You won't lose torque by changing the y pipe, either.

Yeah I'm liking the look of the jba cat foward short. Ill leave the big resanator after the y pipe but the one at the tail is going bye bye for my tip 3in 5out( don't hate) always liked the diesel tip look. Should I punch out my cats wile I'm there with access to them?

If you hollow out the cats it will create turbulence, you should replace with a straight pipe if you go that route. You will also get engine light codes unless you make an non fouler spacer.

You have 2 resonators?

truck is tuned by hemifever, rear 02 is off as well as egr. im guessing it's 2 of them... one at the end by the tail pipe and 1 way up in the front after the y pipe its a big round one. guess its easier to leave the cats vs cutting and bending pipe and what not
