I work as a Tech for Chevy dealer and yes I bought a dodge. It was alot cheaper with more options. We also have a Dodge dealer next door who we are a part of. Anyway I have 500 miles on this truck and was driving through the parking lot and heard that damn noise. I thought a steering shaft or tie rod end was loose. Drove it straight next door, of coarse they said it was normal. I said bullshit, the service manager who is one of my good friends also has one does the same thing. SUCKS!! Going to have Dodge open a case.

I know the sound you are talking about. It has nothing to do with MDS, as it is only really noticeable at below MDS speeds like over mildly rough gravel entrance to a parking lot. Sounds like there is a bunch of loose parts ready to fall off.

I have had mine checked by the dealer, and after they found nothing, I went over it myself with a fine tooth comb. I have yet to figure out what it is, and now that I have just over 20K miles on the clock, it doesn't do it as bad or as often, so is becoming increasingly difficult to diagnose.

I can only speculate at this point. I believe it may be the brake caliper rattling. My reason for this speculation is that I don't recall hearing the rattle when the brakes were applied. As mine has pretty much quietened right up, I can no longer make this happen on demand.

Next time you hear the rattle, apply a small amount of brake to see if the noise goes away.

I thought the same thing at first but don't think that's it idk, will check the motor mounts though, also thought about getting the truck good and muddy to see if it would change the noise, dealer changed the steering rack and made no difference, fixed one of two rattles/squeaks in the dash and get this they had to pull the front seats to remove the dash, that's pathetic imo but I give em(dealer) an A for effort.

I even tried using a wireless backup camera attached in various places to see if I could 'see' something odd. The only thing I discovered is that when I went over bumps bad enough to make the noise, the camera shook so bad that everything looked loose including the planet earth! LOL It was definitely a failed experiment.

I have also wondered if it has something to do with the front shocks. It is my understanding they have a check valve in the top that is used to change the rate of dampening dependent on the conditions. If that's the case, low speed on washboard could be the right conditions for this valve to chatter. Also the application of brakes would change the loading somewhat, and may have quietened it enough in some cases for me to consider the brake calipers as a suspect.

All I know is a) it does exist and b) all my testing has only left me with speculation and theories.

Don't really know what rattle you're talking about...the only rattles I can find are inside the cab - all the crap I keep in there.

dude we are on the same page here, like the way you think and the effort your putting into this, I did not know about this check valve, when did they start using it? on another forum a guy tried new bilsteins and didn't help but he later found out he needed new tie rods, but if afew of us determined people keep at it we might find it.

I also have a case open, at least that's what my dealer told me, I tried to call dodge customer service but can't get through, not a good sign.

I cannot confirm it's existence. It is something I read at a non-authoritative source, so needs to be confirmed. If it does exist, it is a possibility but if replacing the shocks with Bilsteins did not correct this, then I pretty much ready to toss this theory out the window. I can't see it being tie rods as this was there from day one and I know many owners that have mentioned it. I have also checked the tie rods extensively and cannot see how they could make that noise......but.....

I will continue my hunt for this elusive 'Sasquatch' rattle as it is about the only thing between me being 99.9% and 100% happy.
