Default Gears, Converter, Cost, Reliability? Bang for the Buck?

I know gears and converters have been addressed several times but I seldom hear the final outcomes so I'm going to ask again if you all don't mind.
Im disappointed in the Off the Line Performance of my 5.7 Hemi with and with open 3.55 gears and want to step up to some steeper gears for some better ETs. Love my truck but the only way this thing will smoke the tires is if I power brake it. My previous truck was a 99 F150, 5.4, 3.73 open diff and it would smokem no problem.
Been looking on some of our local Speed Shop Parts and notice that OEM gears are available, 3.92 and 4.10 and claim theyre a direct bolt in.
Do I need a Master Install kit also? Truck has 30k miles.
If I could find one, would a LS Carrier also bolt in?
Heard that the axils are different lengths?

OR

Should I go with a Torque Converter? Think it would be cheaper?

Any advice would be appreciated.

i would just start by adding the 4:10 gears. then decide if i needed to do more.

4.10 is only a direct bolt in if you are not 4x4 as they only come in the RT models, which are not 4x4. 3.92 can upgrade both front and rear, and it was fairly cheap. Was $2100 for my setup (mopar parts, dealer install, full warranty) on my last truck, and like you I went from 3.55 open, to 3.92/LSD.

My '11 Big Horn had 3.92 and LSD in it already.

op if you go the gear route and decide to save a few dollars by not using the dealer, make sure you thoroughly check out the shop you do use. this work must be exact or you be replacing gears more than once.

The '12's have the ring gear welded on.

Before you start dumping 4 figures on parts you really need to consider a top line tuner (Bully Dog or Diablo). Its not just the gears that are holding you back. The 1500 has a very aggressive torque management system that tries its hardest to keep your from spinning the tires or launching hard. I am not sure what you are looking for in the end, but it may be enough to satisfy you. Even if its not, your going to need a good tuner for the gears and trany shifts after a TC anyway.

Thanks for all the advice. I think it's true that the Torque Management is holding the truck back in the low end torque department. The truck does pull pretty good when the engine is in the power curve. I'm getting between 6.0 and 6.1 (0-60) times with half a tank of gas and 2 occupants/450lbs of which isn't bad.
ArmyofOne: Was there a big difference going from the 3.55 to 3.92 in the seat of your pants feel?

here was, a pretty big one. MPG hit was non-existent. Like .2 mpg hwy, and city actually improved. The tuner definitely made the biggest difference by far.
