Unlike the 5.3 Liter GM "LS" engines with their almost 10.0:1 compression and aluminum heads.

Engines just aren't "Efficient" enough. Too much soggyness on HP and Torque.
Agreed! A boost in compression does wonders for these motors. 9.8/10.2 works best if you polish the chambers and have a good tune.

it would be interesting to have some of us 5.9L guys put hydrogen fuel cells into our trucks and see how much better our economy could get, I seen one youtube video the guy was getting I think around 23 or 27 mpg with a home made setup, he even had some computer hooked up to the truck and it showed it, wondering on whether i should try this, but i also want to get a tuner for the truck and see if that helps at all was thinking SCT myself, but right now she is so thirsty

i have the 5.9 360 off road edition but i only get 10mpg and i take the highway most places i go. I understand how needy and thirsty the 5.9 can be but doesnt this seem a little low for highway miles? any suggestions? Everyones right though be aware of the tire you run and driving. No disrespect at all just saying the 5.9 wants to run free lol

What size tire are you running?

I have an Offroad on 33's and I get about 10 in town and slightly higher on the highway.

I find the best highway fuel economy is around 67 mph for me, and if it's hilly, you can bet on 10 mpg. How fast are you usually running?
