i seen a 14' ram with projector halogens in and they are horrible my piaa 4100k were brighter with quad headlights cant wait to do the swap out with hid upgrade and when i can afford the fx-r's those will be the way to go i hope you post pics when you get yours blackhemi!
BlackRam when are you getting the fx-r units? And which name brand bulbs did you go with?
Hornet you should post some pics of your light output. Also it depends on what bulbs you have as well and if they are seated right. What ballasts and bulbs did you go with?
BlackRam are you able to do an output shot on pavement instead of grass so we can see how evenly the light is spread with HIDs in stock projectors? Are they normal morimoto bulbs or the xb?
Jeremy is waiting for a new shipment of FX-R's and new ballasts from retrofitsource
So it will be early November by the time my new heads arrive.
I have no idea what bulbs mine shipped with (already installed)
But I suspect its the same as the Morimoto Elite series components
I'll try to get more pic's up soon,
but my shitty blackberry does not take good photos at all at night
The output looks so much better in person, I may need to borrow a good camera from someone.
Here's a good set of pics from someone on DodgeTalk
Who installed TYC's on his 11' but went with upgraded halogens instead of HID's
Here are some night shots, the Philips Crystal Vision Ultra bulbs give off a nice bright white light for a halogen bulb. I have these bulbs installed in the fogs as well and had them previously in my stock quad lights and was impressed for the price, picked up a pair for about $25 shipped.
10 sets of TYC's newly released replicas of the 2013+ Ram projector headlights! And.........you know what? They look awesome! I've been using TYCs for years, and these replicas remind me of why I use them - they just look great! And.....oddly enough, the replicas have a better cutoff than the OEMs (thanks to a clear lens). These will retail on our site for $685 (without adapters, please add 100-110 for adapters if your truck didn't come with these from the factory). The first 10 sets of these black ones I'm going to shoot out at $625 shipped, in the lower 48!
TYC understands that these can be fun to ship, so they zip 'em up! Remove, screw dust cap on and all set!
The very last two pictures showing the cut-off are deceiving due one picture being more crisp (in-focus). But its not hard to tell that the TYC has sharper cut-off line. Its just that the OEM projector didnt quite get a far shake in the deal.
Mike,
Who manufactures the TYC headlights (???)
Are they chinese knock-off`s...???
The oem projectors with halogen are not that bad, Maybe cause my truck is lifted. I have never been spoilt with good factory lighting. This is only my second vehicle. Car before this was civic that I retro'd mini h1 in.
Those tyc headlights are pretty nice, one of the better aftermarket headlights I have seen. The output looks to be better then oem and has a nice cut off.
If your looking into getting some hid bulbs you guys should definitely look into getting the morimoto xb 5500k. Has the best output even compared to more expensive Philips and osram. Very good quality and come with warranty. There was a d2s bulb test and they did very well. Even better then 4300k and 4500k.
BlackRamHemi, I for one REALLY appreciate all of the help you have been providing on this forum and the "other" with these HID's. Thank you sir!!! :beerchug:.
Quick question, did you have any issues in the colder months up their with the "drop in kit"?
Can't wait to get the adapters for my 10'
I picked up a cheap set of 14' OEM LED tails locally on kijiji,
already tinted out and clear coated, just need a final wet sand and polish.
hey blackhemi I am so impatient waiting for my headlights to get here I have one last question for you, on the projector headlights with the halogen high beams should I keep the bulb from retroshop in it or us my piaa xtream white 4100k that i recently got seeing as how everything will be taken out it would be an easy swap out if the retroshop ones arent that good thanks for your info once again and I just looked at your thread with all your pics youve done a lot to your truck over some time nice upgrades great work!
I'm looking at adding the PIAA's too Josh.
I did notice the high beam bulbs that come with the TYC's are 65 watt bulbs, and the PIAA's are a 60 watt bulb.
I haven't done the swap yet,as i'm waiting till i have my new resistors and have to pull the headlights out again, but the differance between the wattage's is making me wonder if there's much of an improvement going to the PIAA's
PIAA`s = NOPE, they`ll be worse, i`ve been there an done that in the past.
Its even worse if the PIAA has a blue tinted hue. Blue tint cancels white light out.
Pic from an 11' Sport with 13+ TYC projector heads, 9006 low beam bulb (I think 9012 is stock)
H10 fog light bulbs for horizontal, 9006 for new 13+ vertical style Sport fogs
The high beam is just a standard 9005 bulb Mike,it's probably one of the most common bulbs used,my wifes Buick uses the same bulbs,.
After discovering the bulbs in the TYC's are a 65 watt bulb already, and the PIAA's are only 60 watt,i think i won't bother changing them.
Next time a Sylvania bulb burns out in my wifes car, that's where i'll put the PIAA's
Fyi.....I have now had my 50w 5k HID drop-in kit installed now for about 8hrs running time at about 1hr straight "on" each time (commute to work). There are zero issues. I have the OEM projectors. The install was wicked easy and the results are awesome....much better than stock halogens. Well, worth the cheap price of about $150. With a lot more $ you can do better than my setup, but that depends on you and what you're willing to spend.
Thanks for the update Pete. Just ordered some H1's for my wife's BMW. Pretty sure once I get those done, I'm going to copy you and throw the HID kit in my stock projectors.
Seems like a pretty good deal for relatively cheap money.
Im going to order some HID's and I'm taking Blackramhemi's advice on ordering just the bulbs, ballasts, and Canbus adapters. Which bulbs do I need? 13 ram with projectors. I was on the retroshops site and they don't have the 9012's in their drop down list... any help appreciated!
You need to select the 9006...The site just needs updating,
The early kits shipped with 9006 bulbs that had to be trimmed to fit
All new kits actually ship with 9012 bulbs now that RetroFitSource has supply of the new models.
My new FX-R'd Heads should arrive any day now, in customs at the border as I type.
I also had JJ add some Amber Demon Eyes to run with my running lights... +$50
Along with the new FX-R Heads I'm expecting HID's for my Fogs
and Adapters so I can finally install my OEM LED Tails, all tinted up and ready to install..
Nice I'm planning on doing that mod too. In my last retro I had a switch for amber and red demon eyes. Looks good!!
Quick question.. I have a sport with oem projectors. When I press the switch towards me to turn on highs it only makes the halogen high go on. But when I click it away it activates auto high beams and halogen highs go on as well as projector solenoid gets activated. Is there anyway to make the solenoid activate without doing the auto high beam? Only way try go on is if it's completely dark. Seems like I can turn them on off manually.
